QR codes for your listings, how do they work?

You're seeing them all over the place! Those funny looking squares are seen more and more in the Real Estate industry. What are they and how do they work?

It is a very simple technology to use. On your smart phone you simply need a "QR code" reader and these readers are usually free. I have a few readers on my iPhone but they are also available on the other platforms as well. As you can see in the video all you have to do is scan the QR code and voila! The QR code will bring you to the web site. The web site you are being re-directed to should be a mobile enabled site in order for you to easily browse the web site without having to scroll all over the place on your smart phone. It's that simple.

I have seen many different uses for these codes but in my opinion these are not really useful online. If I have to get you to scan it from your mobile phone (as you are surfing the internet) you probably won't do it. A link or web address would be better while surfing. I believe that in print, it will be better.

There are a few other ways you can use the QR codes. Some will text you, send a SMS message or even make a phone call for you. As you can see below I have created a few different QR codes for you to try.Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Jean:  I am wondering just how much use the general public will make out of something like this.  For techie-minded Realtors, I can understand... kinda/sorta... but for Ivana Newhouse... typical new home buyer... will she be using this ?

Besides... I'd much rather have her call ME for information.

In some ways we seem to be inventing ways for buyers to have LESS connection with us, rather than more.

By the way, Jean... that was an excellent tutorial video.  Thanks so much !

Hi Karen, I agree that I prefer to have clients call me, much better!! I do think that today's buyers out there are also wanting information instantly. We are also showing potential clients how tech savvy we are and that we don't just put up a sign and hope their house sells. I guess time will tell. If we could only capture their info when they scan...

I believe the "codes" & "tags" will be big.   They can provide more information about the property when the flyer box in empty, but also direct them to call you.   Over 50% have these smart phones now and they
expect it to grow very fast.   If you are over 30, you may have a hard time with it, but the younger home buyers do get it and the fastest growing segment in the older group.
