What A Red Door Means In Scotland

Months ago I had come across this great post..sent myself a link to the page, marked it with purple flag (meaning urgent follow-up, HA!), then it slid right off my radar. Until this past week, when talk of door-painting suddenly seemed to become a very hot topic.

What Does Your Front Door Say About You is a broad look at some of the colors that front doors are painted, and what they mean. Went back, re-read the post, then trolled around Susan's own site, and it was absolutely delightful.

Between Naps on the Porch is a blog Susan Herin created out of love for all things home: Decorating, tablescapes, recipes-you name it.

I like it for several reasons-it's professional, detailed, creative and tasteful. Like M*****, without the whole smug-thing. And this was before we had even e-connected, she is just as delightful. live and in person!

Visit, enjoy, even bookmark, and may a red door be in your future, too!

"Home Staging is anything that betters the market position of a property, while easing the minds of both the seller, and Realtor

Decorating is the physical manifestation of a complicated set of circumstances that include time, money and taste; reflecting  family, values and the world at large"     ~ TRH

WHEW. Not exactly HGTV-ese, but it's the truth.

Our spaces affect us profoundly. SO many other things fall into place when they are all they can be...but getting there is more than the pursuit of an aesthetic.

Bettering Westchester, and lower Fairfield counties since 1981, The Refreshed Home is a client advocate, working collaboratively, bringing a thoughtful approach to a creative process.  Offering specialty services such as remote and buyer consults, listing photo/video prep, shopping, and accessory rentals.

Hi Marie--I was holding my breathe as I read down the post--because I want to paint my front door red.  Well, I like the answer; however, I would prefer to get the benefits of a yellow front door.  But yellow is never going to fly here!

Dawn-am very curious about the 'why' purple and northwest doors don;t mix. If I could, I would do purple in a heartbeat ( I live in a coop, and charcaol grey is the standard...uggggg)

Janet-now I am curious-why wouldn;t yellow work in your area?

Marie, my house in Illinois has a red front door...guess I better change that since I don't want a lot of people showing up thinking they can spend the night.  My house here in Alabama has a white front door...I know I better change that color right away :))

Marie, I have a red front door. Interestingly, the description describes me and my home to a tee. That's what I want my home to always be...welcoming.

Marie, if the white door representation is any ones perception of me...they are sorely miss-guided :))

Tammie-from what I've read of yours, I had you pegged as a yellow AND red door!

Marie, I'm just curious...is there a color that says "STAY AWAY", easily agitated owner behind this door?

Nick-you are so funny with this! My personal observation is that orange/peach is kind of an oddly perceived color, as is Grey Poupon gold and weird pinky-browns. Of course, stickers from NRA, or Bull Mastiff Breeders' Association or a quarantine notice will all do the job nicely too :)

Marie, I was just up north and thought I'd take a photo of my front door for your post...gotta do something about the color because of it's hidden meaning.
