The Wind Beneath My Wings

By
Home Stager with Perceptions AdverStaging(TM), LLC

Have you ever met anyone that made you wonder if you were walking around experiencing life half asleep?  You might know if you've met someone like this because they're like the bright light that moths are attracted to, they don't really do anything to get your attention, they just are; and what ever they are or whatever it is they seem to have in their core, some of us want a piece of.

I know a woman we call Sissy just like that.  She lives life as though she might not wake up tomorrow; enjoying the beauty of the moment.  She's not reckless by any means, though her approach to many things does sometimes seem unorthodox.  She forms deep relationships with most she comes in contact with and most folks just plain like to be around her.  Sissy challenges every ‘because that's the way it's supposed to be done' rule that has ever been laid before her; and she always has.

Occasionally while speaking with Sissy we'll discuss our respective jobs.  Almost without fail when we have these conversations she'll ask me what I'm afraid of or what's stopping me from___ and she'll fill in the blank.  Most of us that know and love Sissy really enjoy this about her.  As a matter of fact, I can't think of anyone that doesn't.  Don't get me wrong, we squirm - bunches! But in the process we're able to eliminate those things that aren't needed, shift things a bit and move other things around until they better fit and make more sense in the space we're in.  It's not unlike staging an occupied property at all.

Bette Midler recorded the song The Wind Beneath My Wings for the movie Beaches when when Sissy was in elementary school.  I used to say it was the song that defined our relationship - it was how I saw her.  I still do.

Once in awhile Sissy will call early, before she leaves for work, or late, after working on a project she wanted to get perfect and say "Mom, I'm having a hard time with______, do you have any suggestions?"  It's then that I get to think to myself: Well...wind I may not be; but maybe at least an open window that allows a breath of fresh air.

Jackie ~ What a nice post!  You should enter this in the contest being run over in the Inspired by Song group.  I think you would just have to add the artist of the song and your set!

Kathy - you are so kind.  I didn't think it would qualify - but I've adjusted it a bit and have now submitted it.

I'm now wondering what Sissy is going to say if she ever see's this, LOL!!!

Jackie, what a beautiful tribute to your daughter.  I, too, have one that challenges the rules all of the time, and I admire her deeply for it.  Good luck in the contest!

Hi Linda - Thanks for stopping in.  It is a beautiful song, isn't it.  Thanks for the well wishes!

Lisa - Thank you!

They do possess admirable qualities don't they?  I think what I admire most (and have most learned from!), is her ability to see possibilities where other's see iron curtains.

Paul - Thank you for stopping in to make note.  I'm enjoying reading all of the posts - great idea!

Lysa - Thank you for sharing your sentiments :)   I'd have to say I do consider myself lucky to have her as a daughter.  I eagerly look forward to having her join me in the business too!

I agree with you about the photo - I've not been able to find just the right word for it.  She does seem to be quite the free spirit up there above those clouds, doesn't she?

Jackie,

What a beautiful and touching story! Thanks for sharing! We all want to have that kind of person in our lives. You're so lucky to have Sissy and I have no doubt she would feel the same. That is some connection!

Dave - Thank you.  I don't know for sure, but for some silly reason I'm thinking we probably all have this kind of person in our lives, to one degree or another.

Jackie: I'm so glad you posted this to ACTIVIST RAIN. This is an example of being free enough to follow your heart...whatever it 'calls' you to do. Sometimes, I think that we are so confined by our own fears...fears of not 'fitting' or fear of failure. It keeps us from acting on our convictions and passions. What a different place the world would be if we could just trust that voice inside of us. I can't wait to see you 'fly'!!!!

Elizabeth- Absolutely and that's what my eldest daughter teaches me ALL THE TIME.  I've always been somewhat like that myself, but certainly never to the extent she is and so she know's she can challenge me.  I think I was gifted both of my children for different reasons - her, I think I was gifted to learn to let go and trust and be free-er...and to be able to 'hear with ears' that have much better ear drums.

Thanks for your encouragement.
