Making Daddy's Birthday Dinner - Speechless Sundays

Helping Daddy

My husband wanted to make his birthday dinner (yes, I offered), and when he started, our little one announced, "I want to help!"  And, help he did, rolling out the pizza dough, spreading on the sauce and sprinkling on the cheese.

Why wouldn't we encourage him to help when he's so enthusiastic.  Hopefully it will carry us through his teenage years.

Very cute, and probably will Christine. I have a son who expressed his desire to help around the same age. I put him in a children's basic cooking class.  Now he loves to step in and make dinner, he's 14 now.  He makes tacos, burgers, hamburger helper, cookies, mac and cheese, and a few other things. He's my sioux chef when I make bigger meal. It's nice to have another cook in the house. Thanks for sharing.

Hey, I think it is wonderful that you encourage him to help with the cooking.  My own kids started when they were about 2.  They had to, or they would have starved to death.  The step stool in the kitchen, was such a handly thing:-)  Interestingly enough, when they were grown, I became interested in cooking. . .Otherwise, I would have starved to death.  In life, we improvise, adapt and overcome. . .OR we die!

Lottie - We had to take pictures because we were all enjoying it so much.

Diane - I passed the good wishes along.

Ralph - Maybe it's the cheese?

Tom - He really was.  They had a lot of fun.

Cathy - A basic cooking class sounds like an interesting idea.  I think he may need another year or too though.

Myrl - I had to cook too as a youngster.  I learned a lot as Mom was busy running the business frequently.

Our little one loves to be the big helper as often as she can as well. You can't say no when they want to help!

Christine - the younger they are when you teach or encourage the better the odds are they will carry it through their entire lives not just their teens

Young Chef Academy can be found nation-wide and starts as young as 6 I think. Have a suoer weekend and bring your son into the prep area on Turkey day! They can do alot.

Margaret - He so frequently makes us smile.

Karen - I hope they are the terrific teens.  We figure if we do work now, it should show up in dividends later.

Stefan - They have so much fun with it, so why not?

Sharon -  That's exactly what we are hoping for.  I'll let you know in a few years ; )

Cathy - Thank you.  I'll look into it.  And, I'll remember to have him in the kitchen next week.
