Sharing the harvestDecember’s Season of Celebrations & Sharing:  Kroger Partners with Shared Harvest Foodbanks

Maybe you've noticed the little tags at the Kroger checkout.  Little colored rectangles with $1, $3 and $5 on them and the words Shared Harvest, but didn't know what it was about?

Well today we're going to clear up any questions!  Kroger has teamed with Shared Harvest to make it easy for you to donate to this large area supplier of Food Banks & Pantries.  Pull a tag (or more) in the donation total you want, the cashier scans the tags and a donation is set up for Shared Harvest by adding the sum to your checkout total.

Now WHY Shared Harvest?  As you probably know, during tough economic times, not everyone is making ends meet, and sometimes there's just not enough food to fill the table for the family.  Shared Harvest helps meet this need.  Shared Harvest collects and distributes to over 100+ food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters in Warren, Butler, Preble, Darke and Miami Counties.  From these centers, the food gets out to those in need.

Additionally, Shared Harvest distributes 35 pound boxes of food to over 1900 senior citizens each month.  They also distribute child-friendly nutritious food to 2100 Butler and Warren Country elementary students identified at risk.  Have you seen anything about Shared Harvest that ISN'T to like?  We didn't think so! :)  And with 28 years of service, they've got a track record of getting the job done!

So if Kroger isn't you're preferred grocery and you'd still like to help, call Shared Harvest at 1.800.352.3663 or visit their website www.SharedHarvest.org

We appreciate your support for another great charity helping our local residents in need!  Chip in 1, 3, 5, whatever works for you, Shared Harvest will put it to great use!

Barbara, Fortunately for our area there are an abundance of charities that help with this need.  The bad news....they' don't always have as much on their shelves as they need.  These banks are VERY cost efficient in their purchase, and a dollar given to them goes MUCH further than the same dollar spent by us.

BLiz: Shared Harvest is a wonderful program...kudos to Krogers for stepping up and not only recognizing a need but taking action to help out.  The best part is, we can all help for just a few bucks when we shop at Krogers!

Anita, It's a piece of cake to help.  We've done the grab a tag or two and add to our total.  A few dollars more here and there won't be missed, but can make a big impact.

Hi Bliz, What a wonderful thing that Shared Harvest is doing in your area to support many of those families that are in need of some additional food items to get them through this Christmas Season. There nothing compared to the "Spirit of Giving" during this time of the year. My hats off to Kroger and Shared Harvest for all their efforts for these families.

Jerry, This time of year (other than the Black Friday fights!) seems to bring out the best in everyone!

BLiz, a couple of our stores are doing it and it is a great way to give back especially if you have other coupons...what you save you give back & it doesn't hurt the pocketbook that much either.

BLiz - These are staggering numbers and a real wake up call about how many people that are truly in need.  Another reminder that it's people of all ages that are hungry and in need of help.  We don't have Kroger in our area but I'll be sure to look next time I'm at our local market and see if they're participating in anything like the Shared Harvest program.

BLiz - What a GREAT way to share with folks who may be struggling this time of year!  Our HEB has a similar program helping the San Antonio Food Bank - my kids always make sure I grab one of the "coupons" to swipe =)

Excellent............Shared Harvest is an amazing organization.  There are so many in need today.  Just $1 out of our pockets add up and can make such a huge difference.

Roger, Especially the way they leverage their dollars.  There's a Cincinnati food bank my day job frequently partners with.  I want to say that a dollar of cash in their hands is worth about 3 in ours.
