Amazing as it is, Eggbert, a long lost tradition is now back for Christmas in Newburgh and New Windsor, NY. Eggbert; A long lost holiday outing of childhood has now found its way back into the community. So many remember Eggbert, their long lost friend of xmas, finding his way into a new tradition for their children and grandchildren.
An egg you say? Yes…. Eggbert a pseudo Santa like event of unusual quality had been a local favorite for so many years. Dewitts, a local nursery had placed a large egg, with a face in their Christmas on the Farm holiday attraction.
For many years this was quite the hit.. and then… back in 1999, after the Christmas holiday Eggbert was taken down from his thrown. The retail part of Dewitts nursery was sold and the tradition was retired .
Recently the new owners of the building came across the paraphernalia that made Eggbert who he was, and has almost magically relaunched the event for the community. It appears that this has been quite the success and has even made it into the “Events of the Season” section of the NY Times. People from all over the community have been driving since the weekend after Thanksgiving to see Eggbert reemerge from his retirement. Just as in years past, his presence continues to mesmerize small children. The parents of these children reminisce of the days when they too would visit Eggbert and see just a bit of the magic of the holidays they remember.
Eggbert is now back at his home at Dewitts Christmas on the Farm
Come visit Eggbert on Saturday’s from 10am to 5pm
Sunday’s from 11am to 4pm. All are Welcome!
