Who Started Christmas?

~Who Started Christmas?~

This is a story I received and wanted to share.

I think it states the message well, as to what Christmas is all about.

There was a recent story on the radio about  a woman who was out Christmas shopping with her two children.  After many hours of looking at row after row of toys and everything else imaginable, and after hours of hearing both her children asking for everything they saw on the shelves, she finally made it to the elevator with her two kids.

She was feeling what so many of us feel during the holiday season time of the year. Overwhelming pressure to go to every party, every housewarming, taste all the holiday food and treats, getting that perfect gift for every single person on our shopping list, making sure we don't forget anyone on our card list, and the pressure of making sure we respond to everyone who sent us a card.

Finally the elevator doors opened and there was already a crowd in the car. She pushed her way in and dragged her two kids in with her and all the bags of stuff. When the doors closed she couldn't take it anymore and stated, "Whoever started this whole Christmas thing should be found, strung up and shot."

From the back of the elevator everyone heard a quiet calm voice respond, "Don't worry, we already crucified him." For the rest of the trip down the elevator it was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop.

Don't forget this year to keep the One who started this whole Christmas thing in your every thought, deed, purchase, and word.  If we all did this, just think of how different this whole world would be.

Hi Roger--that is just a beautiful story.  Thank you for sharing it.  Makes you pause for a moment and really consider what we are doing and why.  The true meaning of Christmas should be present every day in our lives.  That would be a remarkable gift.

That was a very touching story Roger. We get a little carried away at times and forget the reason for the season.

BUFU, I get so disgusted at this time of the year because of store ads, my husband hears me ranting about boxing 'week' sales after Christmas, and now the ads have started for boxing 'week' before Christmas! Retail! I'm shaking my head as I type this! :D

Excellent Story Roger, thanks so much for sharing it.

I used to get carried away at Christmas Time, but not so much anymore.  We spend our holiday ringing the bell to help others, participating in the Lessons & Carols Service, and a beautiful candlelit mass on Christmas Eve.  My gifts come from the heart, I only send cards to a select few, and I spend a lot of time trying to teach Tanner what the season is all about!  We do bake for the neighbors and our friends and enjoy every minute of it.  The best part is walking around the neighborhood delivering the goodies and getting to know folks around us.  We read the Story of Christmas (and okay.... we watch "The Christmas Story"), but for us Jesus is the reason for the season, and we choose to spend our time with each other and not hustling & bustling about like crazies!  Sometimes, we all need a reminder what Christmas Truly Is, and this post does just that....THANKS and wishing you a Merry Christmas filled with Love & Happiness!

Great post. Sometimes it is the calm voices within the frenzy that make the most sense.  Too bad for us we've systematically remade Christmas from joyous to frenzied ... a gentle reminder this time of year is both welcome and much needed. Be still ... take a breath... and reconnect with the reason for the season.

BARFF- love the story and yes, we all get so wrapped up in shopping, baking, partying, and I could go on, that we forget about what we really are celebrating.

You will always hear me say Merry Christmas and not Happy Holidays...............politically correct or not, that's what I believe.

Thank you for sharing the same beliefs.

Roger ~ what a fabulous reminder of why we are actually celebrating at this time of year.  The commercialism has really done everything it could to disguise the true meaning.

I agree Dawn.  I'm all for gifts, but it's gotten way out of hand and most people do forget the real reason for the season.
