Building an All American Home and Rebuilding a Nation

Sometimes you come across a concept that's so brilliant, you are absolutely obligated to share it with as many people as possible. With the American economy in shambles, this is an idea who's time has come.

Builders would be crazy not to embrace this.  This is a fantastic selling feature. Build an All American Home in a great floor plan, and I can sell them over the competition all day long.  Don't forget that the American consumer is hurting too.  Almost everybody knows somebody who doesn't have a job. Give a home buyer the choice between this and a home made with "stuff" from China, and guess which one they'll choose.

As agents, we should make sure every builder we work with knows about this concept.  Send them a link for the video, and send them a link of the Made in American Supply List.  This is something that will directly impact our industry, create desperately needed American jobs, and a better end product for our clients.

Virginia,

I wish I could share your optimism.  Most of the people I know here in Kentucky will buy whatever is cheapest.  That is certainly true for food, for automobiles and for clothes.  I hope houses will be different but I am a skeptic.  Thanks for the post.  I hope and pray this will catch on.

I loved the series Diane Sawyer and crew did on Made in America.   After watching it I find myself checking to see where each item I purchase is made--it makes me smile when I see Made in the USA.

Virginia, nice post! It is unfortunate that due to some materials being more costly many builders or owners won't incur the high cost but I love the concept and will be sharing. Just doing my part in spreading the word in an effort to help our economy!

Here's to a great 2012!

Paul - I believe it's different with houses. It's such a major purchase that people tend to be more choosy. Plus, the whole "chinese drywall" issue woke a lot of people up.

Norma - I always try to buy made in America. It's really frustrating when you go to the store to buy an item and there isn't an American made option.  That really drives me nuts.

Malinda - Thanks for stopping by my blog.  I refuse to have cable hooked up, so I only just saw this today. :)

Jamie - I think the video puts the cost difference at 1%, which isn't very much.  Considering that helping to create jobs creates a bigger buyer pool, it's a fair trade.

Peter - I hope more builders follow too.  I'll sure be doing my part to make sure they have the list.

Hi, Virginia:  I know I'd like to see this catch on- and have it start from the top with folks only hiring American workers and/or "guests" legally  entitled to work here.  One of my brothers is a new-construction type plumber- and though he can make some money doing side jobs here and there, he's still wondering how long he'll be able to afford the house he's spending far too much time sitting around in.
