The one constant throughout life is Christmas!

Christmas tree in my Great Grandfathers House in the 1920's!In an ever changing fast paced world that affects our lives in so many ways, the one constant is Christmas.

No matter how old we are and how many Christmases we have commemorated the spirit of the holiday ALWAYS takes us back to the magical times of our youth.

Christmas is a direct connection to our past that stirs the soul and warms the heart.

It is also a time to look back and remember those that are no longer with us. And even though these loved ones are no longer with us in the flesh, they live on in our traditions and remembrances.

And while it is true that people come and go and our circumstances dramatically change as life goes on, the one constant that both binds us to our past and renews our hope for the future is Christmas.

This season we will sing the same ancient carols that we have year after year, we will watch the glorious old movies that we have since we were kids, and we will eat and drink the traditional fare that just makes Christmas feel like Christmas!

Because the more things change the more they stay the same.

And the one constant is Christmas!

The excitement is in full swing in our house!  I can say I have seen a lot of changes with how we can talk about or use Christmas in general terms over the past few years.

Bob...

On Sundays I like to be a little more specific about my life in general and who I am as a person. This post is not intended to excliude anyone, more as an open window into my essence! Thanks.

Richard, I love those shots. The first really brings me home to my childhood, I have a shot of our Christmas tree I actually carry with me all the time. Every time I pull out my portable hard drive I see it in the case and smile. The next, well... it is Christmas at your place indeed, and the third, well... I love snow! Christmas has been magical indeed already here, I may post about it later on in the week.

Thank you for the warm memories and the smiles.

Richard -  I really enjoyed this post.  Just last night were unpacking some of the Christmas decorations that have been celebrated since I was a little girl.  They are not 'in style' nor are they 'trendy' but they certainly are cherished!   We also continue to celebrate in the same manner as we did growing up and most of the family comes to my home and would be terribly disappointed to not have the same traditional meals served.  Of course there are a few modern inclusions too but the traditional still needs to be honoured!

Andrea...

I love the last pic the best because last year it actually snowed ON CHRISTMAS Day. That was a very rare event in Newnan GA! As a matter of fact, it has only happened once before ... I think in the 1930's! THX my friend.

Michael...

It's not a day, it's a life event. Thanks and have a great Sunday.

Susan...'

There will always be some "new" traditions, but next year that will be part of what we do every year. That's why Christmas gets better and better with each passing year! Thanks and have a great day.

Good morning Richard,

A wonderful blog, and this Christmas is both joyous and tearful as I have lost two family members recently. Although I know they are at peace, they are sorely missed.

Richard, it's so nice to see that in this rapidly changing world something stays the same.  The kids are all grown around here, but they still do the Christmas adventure like it was 20 years ago.  Always lots of fun.  Merry Christmas!

Family traditions and memories are such a joy! I've just been explaining to my granddaughter that the cookies we're going to make this week are from a recipe that was MY grandma's - feels like a band of love that just keeps adding more strands through the years and the generations.

Richard - I was importamt in the life of a child Christmas is one of those times throughout the year that we gather with family and friends to celebrate. Christmas is a time to reflect on what is, was, and will be important in your life. Christmas is about who is important in your life. Christmas is for kids.

From our house to yours have a Verry Merry Christmas
