"Passion Drives You...Reason Holds the Reigns"....Benjamin Franklin

By
Managing Real Estate Broker with RE/MAX Executive Realty

I’ve written and read many posts about setting goals and working a plan of attack in 2012.  Everything I’ve read makes sense and is good planning for the New Year.  However, the one element that is ALWAYS ASSUMED is that all professionals have a passion for what they do.  This applies to all professions, not just real estate.

If you do not have a true passion for your profession, your production will reflect it.  If you do not have your head in the business at all times, your production will reflect it, and unless there is a passion for your work, you will not conduct your business as such.  If you are not passionate about what you do every day, you will not want to do it every day.

There is no method for creating this passion.  Passion is an element that makes one piece of the puzzle fit perfectly with another.  Passion continually allows the dots to connect with little effort.

To be passionate about your profession is a blessing that not every person will experience.  If you have a passion for what you do for a livelihood, you have truly been blessed.  You should have a smile on your face every day.

there is not too much to discuss here other than some of us have been blessed and others would be wise to find their passion, if they can....not every one is able to do that.....

Hi Barbara...I do, I do.  Yes, every day (at least at some point) I have a smile on my face and feel passion for my profession.  My only problem is I have so many other passions too...family, friends, my pup, reading, photography, travel, etc.

Barbara!  Love this post, during the recession our area lost about 1/2 of our agents, obviously, they were not passionate about what they were doing as it was easy to find something else to do rather than buckle down and learn the "new" approach for our market.

Kate....I bet you do have a passion for real estate and everything else that you do....

Jenifer....many who did not have a passion for working in real estate fell to the wayside....but some continue to work in a sloppy manner and are not very successful in how their approach....

Hi Barbara-I have a true passion for Real Estate...does it have a passion for me is the question, lol :)!  I am not sure that passion equals instant success..I do think that having a passion to continue the dedication to be successful is the key :)...or not...I could be wrong!  Great discussion Barbara!

Brenda.... you lead the way....the profession does not lead you.... you have a passion for real estate....your tone indicates that the profession is not solid for you.... that means you are not planning properly and marketing properly..... you need a mentor and attach yourself at the hip to that mentor.

Interesting....I learned this many years ago and have tried to coach other agents on this concept....Ironically as you mentioned, a shop I have my hand crafted prim items in is being sold now....the owner really had lost her passion several months ago....although I coached and encouraged her she just really lacked the passion...health forced her to make a decision....but really it had been made many months ago....I just hope that the new owner has a "passion" for the business!!!

Deborah....it's really not a difficult concept to understand..... it's also very easy to identify who is passionate and who is not....

Doug....I'm far from being a mega Realtor anymore.....those were the good old days....now I'm just a team leader and marketer.... I'll make note of that book and find it for my nook.

So true. I oftentimes think about my prior career and how unhappy I was all those years. How nice it is to get up every day and look forward to going to work -- even in the toughest of times.

Hi Barbara.  The series and topic of your posts today are right on target.    Passion for helping people drives us in this business.   It can be easy to lose passion temporarily because of an outside distraction.    That is when having a strong, caring office support system is so important in an agent's life and livelihood.

Barbara,

It's the missing link in some cases. often, it's a full and complte explanation of why some people don't do well.

Amen, Ma!  This is so true.  Passion is what keeps your head on straight and keeps you trucking even when there is no  "reason" to smile.  It carries you through the ridiculous lenders, loss mitigation folks, wacky inspections, obnoxious service providers, all of it.

Keep smiling!
