What are your goals for the New Year?

2011 is waning away, and it will be missed.  A lot of great things happened in 2011, especially in this area.  In North Dakota, we experienced record growth, received reports that our population is at record levels, and have experienced economic prosperity that other states could barely imagine.  Nationally, we have avoided a deeper recession, we've seen markets start to bounce back, and we've seen Kim Kardashian start dating, get engaged, get married, get divorced and stay famous.  2011 saw tech failures with Blackberry and Sony both experiencing their networks fail, and we've seen successes such as Apple's iPhone 4s featuring Siri.

Personally, 2011 was good to me as well: I served in my first legislative session in the North Dakota House of Representatives after being elected last November.  I saw my real estate business triple in revenue from the previous year, and I now feel like I am focused and in growth mode in a way that I wasn't before.  2011 was pretty darn good, and I'll be sad to see it go.

Okay, enough dwelling on the past.  2012 is set to be a fantastic year!  I predict that the economy will continue to grow, our markets will continue to be hot, and we'll continue to get deals done.  We'll have excitement across the country as usually comes with a Presidential Election and should see millions of people becomming active who haven't always been so in the past.  We also have that Mayan Calendar thing to deal with too...oh well.

My 2012 goals are simple:

1. Continue to grow my business and try to double what I did last year.

2. Stay active on Social Media.  I recently re-read Ben Kinney's Soci@l book, and am re-reading Shift: Commercial right now, and both have struck a chord with me.  I need to stay on the cutting edge, and stay active at it.  It makes no sense to do a lot of things half-heartedly. If you aren't currently following us on Twitter or haven't like'd us on Facebook, please do so!

3. Continue to grow as a professional.  I know, I'm kind of doubling up on my first point, but I don't just mean business revenue.  I mean I want to improve on my own skills, keep myself in a good mindset (If you've never read Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich book, you really need to), and get more involved with my local community groups (The Chamber, Service Groups, etc).

My partner in Real Estate, Ben Hanson, is looking over my shoulder right now and telling me a few other goals that HE thinks I should have, but I'll leave that for him...

So What are your plans for 2012?  Are you pessimistic and setting your goals low, or are you more positive and giving yourself lofty goals?  I've given you my goals, now I'd like to hear some of yours!

Have a great day and an excellent New Year!

Hey Thomas - been working on my business planning/goals for two weeks now and very excited about the future.  I agree people should write those goals down and review them every day.   12-12-12 will be very special for me.

Good luck - if you believe, you will achieve.
