TAHITIANS HAVE A SAYING ABOUT LIFE

I came across this the other day and I thought it was worth repeating. In Tahiti, they have a saying that means something to them. Islanders and their lifestyle or culture brought this about. The one sharing it was compassionate about it. To me, it applies to everyone but may mean different things to different people

"YOU EAT LIFE OR LIFE WILL EAT YOU"

This was shared by one person to another who was sulking and feeling sorry for themselves. Maybe some island psychological sickness sets in after a while and people need this to refresh and come back. It is used like a verbal slap to bring you back

DOG EAT DOG

This certainly applies to the famous RAT RACE scenario that we have all become familiar with. Do not confuse the eating life statment with with the dog eat dog. It is tempting to do so because both statements share the word EAT. Again, islanders don't eat each other, but some business people have a tendency to dine on their wounded

ISLAND LIVING IS NOT COMPLEX

It is interesting to note that there is no word for TOMORROW in Hawaiian or Tahitian. It makes some sense too because here you are on an island were things are pretty predictable. I mean how many different growing up stories can there be? How many trees did you climb, fish caught or canoe building did you do?....yawn after a while thus making tomorrow a worthless thought.

CITY LIVING IS COMPLEX

In the city, tomorrow carries a lot of weight. Calendars are jammed with agendas, appointments, meetings and must do's so we definitely need a tomorrow... today. Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind thought it was useful to have a tomorrow when assessing her new strategies to pursue Rhett Butler again stating "tomorrow is another day"

HERE'S ANOTHER GOOD ONE

What you brew today, you will drink tomorrow. Whoa! This was used back in the days of the Pyramid building Egyptians as an admonition to someone who was up to no good. They were pretty public about the "brewing deed" or deed brewing and someone close to them thought they needed to hear this statement sort of like a warning to think twice because it can backfire

SUMMAsayings,TION

Eat life....don't eat dog, don't put off anything for tomorrow and watch what you drink....

I like "What you brew today, you will drink tomorrow".

Have an outstanding day and be sure to have your camera in hand to capture the special moments.

Hi Richie,

These are great.  When we are on vacation or the lake with friends, we like to refer to being on "island time" or "lake time."  That is where we move at our own pace and have no regard for what time of day it is.  Can't do that back at home or in the city.

Roy....got my trusty camera ready thank you for the reminder

Hello little Lisa....I like that thought process. It used to take me and my wife 2 days to adjust before we could actually say we were on vacation. You never realize how programmed your daily routine gets into you until you stop practicing it and leave it behind...
