clivia miniata

One of the joys of living in the Santa Barbara area is wonderful plant that lies dappled shade.  At this time of the year you can see them growing wild in wooded areas, and also cultivated in flower beds that get very little sun. This plant which originated in South Africa is known by it Latin name as Clivia Miniata.  Their intense orange red color makes a wonderful contrast with the dark leaves.

Gorgeous photo, and so very tropical looking.  It made my day when it is 6 degrees today for the HIGH.  Sigh.......

It is so astonishing to see something that vibrant blooming somewhere this winter.  You are very fortunate to be living in Santa Barbara.  It's definitely one of the more blessed locations!

What fabulous color!  A nice reminder that it's always summer somewhere, or at least not winter.

That's one I haven't heard of before, Alexandra, and it's lovely. I'm adding to my garden bucket list.

I agree and so full of surprises. A

Mel,

I love when things jump out and speak to me A

Sharon,

They do grow indoors, I have seen them in pots, I believe there is an American Clivia society. A\

Suzanne,

That is bundling up weather, I always will remember those Minnesota winters, in particular when I complain that it is cold outside at 50 degrees. A

Myrl,

We are indeed, very fortunate, and we thank our lucky stars daily. A

Diane,

Yes, and a very good point on your part. A

Toni,

I am sure Florida has them also.  A
