5 Things you Don't Know About Me.

buddha bellyWow, I go away for a day and get memed twice!  Just when I thought the rain was letting up!

I'm participating in the Active Rain Mini-Meme. To fulfill the requirements of the game I have to tag 3 new people and to tell you all 5 things about myself that no one knows.

For those of you who don't know what a meme is (neither did I until this morning).  According to Mary McKnight who was the inspiration for this community building tool:

It's a thought stream carried from one person to another, or, to be more precise, a "unit of cultural information transferable from one mind to the other," so says Wikipedia. Basically, it's the blogging equivalent of a chain letter.  The cool thing about blogging is that the meme can be tracked. Entire websites are devoted to doing just that.

I'm tagging:                                                                                           My 35 week Buddha Belly

Val Allocco

My responses are:

1.  I was home schooled for most of my primary shcool education- 3rd through 8th grade.
2.  I used to compete as an ice skater, and later taught figure skating to Neil Bush's children (President Bush's neice and nephew).
3.  I was accpeted into medical school and was planning on going right after I took a year off to 'recuperate' from undergrad.  It never happend.  I moved to England instead to start my own business selling machinery into the packaging industry.
4.  I almost married my high school sweetheart when I was 22 years old.  We had been together over 7 years at that point.  About 1 month before the wedding I freaked and backed out.  The invitations had been sent, deposits paid.  At the time it was traumatic, but now all I can say is PHEW!  My parents were very understanding and supportive: they said better to cancel a wedding than to get a divorce later; HOW TRUE!  The funny thing is that I still ended up getting married twice!  My husband is British, so we got married (on paper) the 10th of Feb. 2003 to speed the immigration process, and the second time (the ceremony) on the 25th of May 2003.
5.  My second daughter Eloise was born at home (with the aid of a midwife) after 5 hours of labor.  I'm a pretty 'hippy' mom, so experiencing natural childbirth was important to me.  I found it to be both a wonderful and empowering experience (with both my girls!).

Thats all folks!

Don't forget home birth.  I had the last of my 4 with no drugs.  Wasn't as bad as I would have thought.  Although my husband told me later I screamed the F word several times really loudly and the nurse asked me if I would refrain.  I would like to say I complied with her wishes but sadly I told her to F off.  The F bombs not withstanding I'd encourage everyone to go natural.

HMMMM home schooling... would you consider it with any of your girls?

LOVE THE 35 week Buddha Belly!!!

Thanks Marci, though I'm glad that I didn't end up in Med. School; it wasn't for me after all.  I'm not really a big fan of conventional medicine anymore.

Thanks Maureen, I can't imagine being able to use that photo anywhere else.  My husband had fun with that one.

Home schooling: yes I have considered it.  I am still undecided.  I'm just not sure if I could commit to that level of commitment; being with my kids all day every day.  How about you?  Would you consider it?

Wow Jessica, what an exciting life! I always tell my kids until you walk down that aisle and say I do, you are not! Cancel if unsure. I speak that because I got divorced after 14 years of marriage and one week before our wedding he wanted to back out but did not want to hurt anyone or upset anyone because of the money that was laid out. I look back and say if I did not marry him I would have never had my two wonderful kids so there was a reason the wedding went through...Love the belly

Jessica, your 5 things are wonderful and you have inspired the best comments I have read so far on AR.  Who painted the buddha-great work.

Maureen, I am laughing my arse off about you telling the nurse to F off- SOOO FUNNY!!!

Phyllis, I think this is a great example of how things do happen for a reason, we are who we are because of what we have been through.

Ok, I do realize that this isn't my blog, I'm going now....

Gina - the potty mouth thing  - I told you we were kindred.

Jessica - I taught public school for 10 years.  The system has some flaws but my kids love it.  I find even if they go to school you end up teaching them a lot of the stuff anyway.  I'd never have the patience to have the 4 of them home all day every day.  If you do consider it - they have some great homeschooling networking groups now.

My first post to this particular group...

Love the belly. What a happy place to keep a baby!

I homeschooled my son for a few years, when I wasn't working, and now he is doing an online school, Junior year in HS.  It's going okay. The ciricullum (how do you spell that?) isn't really challenging, but he can work at his own pace, and that was key for us.

Anyway, glad to find you all and a beautiful Buddha belly.

Love the belly!!!!!!

Homeschooling - I seriously considered doing it with my kids - that was before I had them.

If we have a 4th - still undecided - I'd like to to a home birth.  We had planned it for our 2nd (which also turned out to be our 3rd) - Identical Twins - who ended up being high risk so I had to let go of my dream for a home birth.  I did however give birth without drugs to the first twin - Can we say "ring of fire!!" and unfortunately had an emergency section for the second twin.

Jessica - I used to live in Denver in the 70's and our vision of Boulder was a college town filled with Berkeley type hippies. Now I know it is true! You are a brave woman and my hat's off to you for the birth thingy. Nice getting to know you!!!

Love the belly! When I was pregnant with my 4th, I made a belly cast out of plaster of paris. Alot of people thought it was more than strange. I enjoyed reading your post!
