Today, the auto show was in town here in Charlotte and I decided to go down to see all the new models and see if there is something out there better than what I'm driving now. I admit, I'm a serious car nut so I look at things pretty critically because I want to know that I have the very best car for the task at hand. So here are my recommendations for you if you are looking to buy a new car this year.
My bias is towards SUV's for real estate. They can hold lots of stuff, people, and they ride on larger tires so potholes aren't a problem. I've driven cars before and inevitably, tires are always an issue. However, I have listed my favs here too.
Best Small SUV: HONDA CRV
What I like: Its cheap and its a Honda, so it just works well. The CRV will not offend anyone. Plus, it gets great gas mileage (22 City / 28 HWY for the AWD version). You can get a fully loaded CRV Leather with Navigation for $28,000.
The back seats can sit two 6' tall adults comfortably. Lots of bins too to store supra keys, lock boxes, business cards, and everything else we amass
What I don't like: Not Much. Sure, the front end is funny and its probably a better city runabout then a country hauler. But very impressive
Second Runner Up in this class: Toyota RAV 4 and Saturn Vue, and Mazda CX-7
Best Up Level Small SUV: LINCOLN MKX
What I like: This is American? This vehicle is as nice as an Lexus RX330! Plus, its got great looks. Lincoln has come a long way with this vehicle and you've got to check his one out.
Sky view sunroof, Microsoft Sync multimedia system, the most comfortable seats, and it comes in some pretty cool colors too. Plenty of room for 6' tall back seat passengers. Lots of storage for all things real estate. Decent gas mileage (18 City / 25 HWY) with a V6. Plus, this car would look wicked vinyl wrapped.
What I didn't like: The instrument cluster looks like it came out of a 83 Granada.
Second Runner Up: Hyundai Veracruz and Hyundai Santa Fe
Best Large SUV: Buick Enclave
What I like: Great Warranty, Spacious, Easy Access to 3rd Row that actually fits people, great looking, second row captain chairs, A/V outlets to plug in laptops, etc. This, and the GMC Arcadia, are the best large SUV on the market
What I didn't like: I wish it came in diesel. That's it.
Second Runner Up: Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot
Best Luxo SUV: ACURA RDX
What I like: Great sporty looks, interior looks great, navigation easy to use, comes fully loaded, great gas mileage (19 city 23 HWY), no premium price for the hybrid.
What I don't like: Nothing. The RDX and the MDX are the the two best in the category
Second Runner Up: Cadillac SRX (Almost a 3 way tie with the acuras)
Best Truck: TOYOTA TUNDRA
What I like: Its Big and it has a business card holder. Lots of legroom, but you will need to order running boards. Lots of space, lots of truck, lots of power
What I don't like: The stock price of Shell Oil will increase with the purchase of this truck.
Second Runner Up: Chevy Silverado.
Best Car: CADILLAC CTS
This was the hardest category. If you're not looking for a premium car, look at the Nissan Altima and the new Honda Accord. They are stunning
What I like: TONS of look at me good looks, incredible interior, great warranty, won't offend anyone, great seat space, lots of power
What I don't like: What's not to like.
These are just my humble opinions
