This Isn't Las Vegas

By

This isn't Las Vegas.  It seems that often it is assumed that since I am from Las Vegas that all my photos will be from Las Vegas.  Today I had a chance to watch sled dog races in Southwestern Wyoming.  The Race ran from Jackson Hole, Wyoming to Park City, Utah. I really enjoyed the race except I forgot my snowshoes and when I decided I wanted to get closer for photos to share, I had to struggle a couple  of hundred yards through chest deep snow. I hope you think the photos are worth it.

The race is the International Pedigree Stage Stop Race and is the biggest sled dog race in the lower 48 states.  It started Jan 28th and will end tomorrow. Communities along the route had all kinds of community activities as the race would pause for each stage.

I didn't get to the events so I missed out on the Dutch oven dinners and snowshoe softball. Maybe next year.

Gary, Love the shots of the dogs and sleds. My mom work as a volunteer at the Iditarod from 2006 to 2008. For her, it was the greatest thrill she enjoyed in her life. I miss my mom dearly, but I get to end my day with a smile. Thank you!

Great photos, Gary.  That looks like a fun event to watch.  I love the dogs looking at you - almost posing.  Now, snowshoe softball?  I bet that's hilarious seeing the batters run the bases in snowshoes.  What a fun time!!

Brrrrr, it looks chilly there, Gary (and I'm from Canada!) :-)  Beautiful photo's as always.  I've never seen sleddogs in person, but I imagine it must have been very exciting...despite the chest-deep snow!

David, It was a great day.  In two days, we got 16 to 18 inches of snow at my mom's and a lot more a few miles on up into the mountains.

Jeffrey, Thank you.  I bet the Iditarod must really be something to see,  I felt lucky to see this race and to be able to share it. I'm glad you get to end each day with a smile.

Juli, Thank you.  I felt like the dogs were excited to see me as they came down the trail -- maybe they were posing LOL.

The snowshoe softball probably is hilarious -- I'm certain it would be if I was playing.

Ron & Alexandra, Thank you.  I was fun to watch and I guess I even got a good workout out in the snow.  I hope your weekend is great too.

Karen, It was very cold  -- and, that was probably a good thing because none of the snow melted on me and I could just brush it off when I finally got back to the road. I was just wearing jeans and expected to be completely soaked and miserable. I'm glad you enjoy my photos - thank you.

Hi Gary, It sure was worth it. It also would be cool to see how things looked  across the edge of chest high snow. When I was little, being in chest high snow was normal, but for an adult that has to be a bit scary especially if you get stuck in it. Thanks for these wonderful photos.

Thank you.

Great pics Gary! Yes they were very well worth the chest deep snow! LOL! Brrrr! I suppose Miss Yaz was toasty warm napping in bed while you were with the doggies! Is she speaking to you yet? I wouldn't let let her see the pics! LOL!
