In Real Estate, No Two Days Are Alike...Ever

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with MoonDancer Realty, Dillsboro,NC NC# 218097

In real estate, no two days are alike. For some of us, that’s one of the real draws to the profession. I’ve had jobs working for other people before when days just roll into each other with no significant difference from each other. In those kinds of jobs, for me, there is no challenge, no passion, no sense of advocacy.

Our day yesterday started with a seminar hosted by Oldtown Bank in Waynesville actually it started with taking Gigi, the 80 pound black and tan coonhound mix to the Animal Hospital of Waynesville for some much needed dental surgery. THEN we attended a seminar hosted by Old Town Bank in Waynesville and the Haywood County Board of Realtors. Interestingly enough, the seminar dealt with the different things that people find “motivate” themselves and how unless we make a concerted effort to discover those things…we may never fully understand what drives us to success. It was eye opening for me. At some point in the future I might share some more in the blogs, but for now I do understand better what draws me to ActiveRain, writing and photography.

After the seminar, we returned to Dillsboro and had an afternoon full of returning calls, prepping for Saturday’s day of showing, I showed our listing on Helen Zachary Rd in Cullowhee and made more calls. We returned to Balsam, picked up the little grey/white cat called “Little Monkey” and went back to the vet’s office. Little Monkey had a senior panel drawn for bloodwork…he doesn’t seem to be keeping his weight on him. We picked up Gigi who was now rid of the infected teeth. Someone was in the vet’s office who had just found a dog that we are sure the owners are frantic to find. This person can keep the dog as of today but couldn’t last night, so we boarded her at the house until this morning.

It was indeed a very long day and certainly different from the day before or how today will end up. So, as I pondered about today’s blog I was searching through my photos and came across this serene scene and thought this will be a good image to reflect upon. I know for a fact, no two days are alike in real estate…ever.

You are so right, every day is different!!  One day can seem so bleak and the next is full of opportunites.  I love the change of my days from one day to the next.  I am also passionate about what I do and I love to set goals and work hard to reach them.  Have a nice day!

Mona, the good news is no two days are ever alike. This is why I love what I do and the opportunities we have to make a difference.

Cynthia...I am motivated by money but sometime I wish that was the only motivation, but I guess I'll deal with what moves me.  You have a great day also.

Terri, Amen back to you.  The other thing I like about real estate is you can be professionally relaxed in manner.  Thanks.

So true Mona, and the fact that no two days are the same is part of what I love about real estate. Whatever today brings, hope you have a great one!

This is what clobbers most new agents. Things change rapidly and even if you have a set pattern, ie cold calls in morning then thank you notes, etc, it is very easy for real estate to whack your established routine to pieces!

You are so right - every day is different.  It's one of the things that keeps us motivated and engaged, I think.

Your first sentence hit it on the head. The fact that no two days are alike is exactly what keeps most of us coming back for more. This is from someone who worked a government job for many years.

Hi Mona, it most certainly is the beauty of the business. Reflecting back on my professional life, I see a pattern there - I never once had a job that was the same day in, day out. I consider myself very lucky. Sometimes, however, it can also be a curse ... you know the days you simply must get a thousand things done but emergencies keep happening and by 11 pm you are barely half-way through your list...

Emily, that is so beautifully put...we DO have many opportunities to make a difference.

Diane, thank you for sending me more hope...I can always use it because I like to keep the container full.  Don't you think sometimes that no two days are alike is because try as we might...the personal always is intertwined with the professional.  Perhaps it is the curse of "making our own hours" lol.

Than, this is really, really true.  Maybe even more so than the money out out out before any comes in...as far as the new agent is concerned.  Every day we start with the right intention but priorities are very fluid and we always need to work closest to the active deal (and manage to accomplish everything else too.)

Sue, I know it's my motivator and I constantly have to work hard at not being distracted by the close up shot of the butterfly whizzing past the window!

Jill?  Are you saying we can't always expect the same thing from the government everyday?  Ha Ha Ha.  I'll bet those jobs are filled with roller coaster moments too.

Andrea...I guess that's why nature gives us a tomorrow, so we can finish up from yesterday.  In real estate those lists are never completed, IMO.

Hi Mona,  Your life certainly involves animals.  I love it.  You are right.  As realtors, our days are filled with many different things.  I embrace the uncertainity from day to day.

Belinda, here's the good news today...Leslie found the owner of the dog and they have happily reunited.  We might as well embrace the uncertainty...it is much quicker to resolve than to resist.  Have a wonderful weekend.

This sure rings true Mona. Our 2 rescue dogs are relatively young and problem free, but we have had more than our share of animal adventures, worries and stresses. Great work helping our furry companions and an outstanding peaceful photo.

It is so true about no two days being alike.  I once worked in an office with an agent friend, who said, "I love real estate because if I get a bad boss (client), the job is usually over within 60 days:-)

first of all, I love that photo!! I tend to love all your photos though.. :)

And you are so right about everyday being different.. and full of possibility!... by the way, when reading this I had a thought that would be good for SEO.. I love how you mentioned your listing and showing it, but you could put a link to the listing on  your website or flier or something so that when someone hits the address in your blog it goes there..I will have to use that idea myself soon... :) thanks for making me think of it!!

Steve? Jan?  Thanks for the comment and glad you found the photo to be peaceful.  The problems with pets always comes in waves. Seems like you can go for a good long time with no issues and then BAM here they come.  Good news is that Gigi seems to be feeling great.

Myrl, what a great outlook.  I think I'll borrow it for those rare times the boss(es) aren't so great.  Thanks for coming back to look at the photo.

Sheila, congratulations again on the 400,000.  The SEO suggestions are a good idea.  I may redo this some on Sunday when I have more time.  Glad I helped you think of it, lol.
