The New Hampshire Home Stager Bait & Switch

By
Home Stager with Sharon Tara Transformations

As many of you know, my husband and I recently bought a house, which we are currently transforming into our new home.  When I first called my husband to tell him I had found "the one" he was surprised and happy to hear it needed NO WORK....

"We don't have to do a thing!" I told him.

move-in readyHowever, on my second visit, to show hubby the house.... let's just say that I must have left my rose-colored glasses in the car.

The burgundy dining room was not going to work, and it really needed a more impressive light fixture.

The mint green powder room also needed a new color....new light fixtures and larger mirror would be in order.

Pink master bedroom???  I don't think so.

The huge mirrors covering the wall in the master bath were disturbing.  New light fixtures needed here too.

We should upgrade the kitchen counter and add tile to the backsplash.

The rest of the house was so white....so very white.

As we left the house, my husband accused me of

BAIT AND SWITCH

He was right...I had misled him a tiny bit.  But it wasn't intentional.  I was an emotional buyer when I first saw the house, and I was all Home Stager the second time around.

I had looked at so many unacceptable houses previously to finding this one and  I was so relieved, to find a house that I could call home, that I saw right past those minor details.

The house really was move-in ready for most people - just not move-in ready for a Home Stager

No self respecting Home Stager and blogger would transform their new home without sharing, so stay tuned for plenty of "before" and "after" pics!

Thanks Sharon. If I can buy it right, I would go for it. Unfortunately, the area I like has no resemblance to the real world. The area where this home is located warrants more but not 100K above. I respect you and appreciate your support.

This actually made me chuckle out loud! Just last week I showed a house to my client - it was 'perfect' - same story as yours. We took her husband back the next day and we were both in shock - the bones were still great, but we were trying so hard not to laugh behind his back as she noticed all the stuff that would 'obviously' have to be updated.

Thanks for sharing!

Roger:  :)

Debra:   Thanks!  I'm working on the series now.  I start watching Jack and his new baby brother Thomas this Thursday so my time will be limited then....but I'll have more Wordless material to work with!

Sheila:  You'll end up right where you are supposed to end up....your dream home awaits!

Mary:  When my agent and I first saw the house it was at 10 am.  When we returned with hubby it was 4:30pm on a Friday.  He opened the slider and we all jumped from the sound of traffic.  There is a highway behind the house and neither the agent nor I had a clue it was there!  We all laughed....how could we not know it was there? No traffic at 10 am - that's how...plus we were too busy loving the place!  I actually love the highway now...there's something soothing about it for me...like listening to the ocean, LOL!

Hi Sharon--congratulations on finding both a new house and another project.  I doubt any of us could move into a home and not put our personal touches on it.  That is what we do, plus I doubt you can look at the house without seeing the possibilities.  Anxiously awaiting the series.

OMG Sharon! I cannot wait for the next chapter. I LOVE these projects. So much fun!

That is actually one of the possible project my husband and I are considering seriously this year: Move for a change of scenery. I truly I cannot get enough of transforming a house into a home.

Keep us posted!

Kim:  Nope, not sold yet.  Another showing yesterday though.  Plenty of action....we have actually had an offer, but turned it down...price was good, terms were risky.

Janet:  It's in our blood and we can't help ourselves!  It's a great house and we are enjoying making it our own.  I'll be so happy though when it's done (is it ever really done?) and we have our furniture and can just relax!

Lydie:  I'll post regularly...I'm planning on posting on each room.  And then, once the furniture and accessories are here, I'll do a final post.  I hope you get to create a transformation of your own...would love to follow your adventure!

Sharon,

I definitely know what you mean.  We all have standards that are different, so for anyone else what IIS acceptable is not for another. A

Alexandra:  It's a beautiful house and many would have considered it "move in ready".... I needed to make some changes.  It's only 8 yrs. old, but now that it's been freshly painted it feels so much newer.

Hi Sharon,

Okay I have now caught up on your past posts on your new home and I loved this one! I'm sure that your husband knew when you said there wasn't a thing to do you meant "for other buyers" certainy not his stager wife :). Love the transformation!! Thanks for sharing the journey with us!

Dorie:  Glad you enjoyed the posts so far....there's still a few more to go.  My husband is still using the "bait and switch" line...he said it again today when I mentioned one more thing I think we need to change.  Oh well....I can't help it!
