Sometimes my home doesn't use quite enough energy, so I'll have to leave some stuff on while I'm out of the house to make up for it.

Leah, Our area utility (Duke) will send someone out to the home for a free review and generate a list of ideas to address.  They also mail a comparison of how your home compares to others for energy usage.  Unfortunately thanks to the 25+ year old furnace/AC in our home, we don't do so well in comparison.  Although the system is still functional, it's near time to move to a more efficient system, it would probably pay for itself within 4-5 years.

Leah, that is interesting.  I wonder if other Utility companies also offer a similar service.

Tim - The Utilities here do them, but there is often a wait for the service.

Rob, thanks for your suggestion of getting clients involved in an energy efficient mortgage.  Love it.

Cameron- Would that we would all have that problem.

Roger - Most utilites offer some sort of energy audit.  It's the easiest and cheapest way to get us to conserve.

Bliz - Sometimes it just pays to chuck the old and replace with a newer more efficient system.  Had the same kind of issue with an old fridge of mine that just refused to die.  It was using up so much energy that we were able to recoup the cost of a new one in just 2 years.  Go for it!

George - most offer some sort of audit - whether on-line or in person.
