Eliminate those inefficient and wasteful stacks of specialty papers!

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Gold, Fair Oaks

We would all love to make our real estate businesses (and our lives) more efficient, and eliminate wasteful processes.  We're already familiar with Docusign, and how it eliminates the need to print drafts of our documents over and over while we gather signatures on hard copies, but there are also other ways to avoid cluttering our offices with stacks of paper.graph paper - 2 per inch

Have you ever wanted to prepare a one-of-a-kind document or form, or make a graph, or write down the music for a tune you have dreamed up, or calendared an event that is in the future and beyond what your current calendar will hold?

Maybe you haven’t yet bought that columnar paper on which you want to keep a record of your business expenses and you’re afraid you’ll forget something if you don’t write it down.  How about a form to write down and track your weekly, monthly and annual goals?.

check registerThe usual solution for most of these issues is to go to the office supply store and buy a pad of the specialty paper you want, even though you might only need one or two pages.  Then you feel that you shouldn’t throw away the rest of the paper because that’s a waste of supplies and of the trees that were cut to make that specialty paper.

So, if you’re like me, you email or text some friends and ask if they can use the extra paper, or you just start stockpiling specialty papers that you will probably never use again.

Talk about inefficiency!
 yearly budget

We’re torn between guilt if we toss it and guilt if we store a bunch of unneeded stuff.

Well, I was sick for a couple of days and vegetating in front of the television set when I wasn’t in bed, and I flipped on the Today Show when they were talking about tips to save money.  I found myself scribbling down several websites, and one of them (and the one that excites me the most) is PrintablePaper.

Polar gridThis site has over 900 specialty papers, including many I’d never heard of.  And you can download and print any or all of them for FREE!  So, you want a basketball scorecard?  Print one.  Graph paper in different scales?  Print them.  Need one more page in your check register?  Or you want to set up a weekly or monthly budget or make an organized to-do list?

How about a template so you can design a door hanger or a CD label?  Or just some collegiate lined notebook paper, calendars or ???

Now if you need one or two sheets of something, just print that many.  No more buying 50 sheets to get one and no more storing pads of unneeded stuff.

Now that’s efficiency!hexagon grid

And just for fun, how about printing out a polar graph(looks like a spider web) and stick a fake spider on it for Halloween décor, or print out hexagon graph paper to use to wrap a small gift?  Check out Printable Paper and I’m sure you’ll come up with some great ideas.

By the way, I have no connection to this site -- I just wanted to share a great find.  Have fun!

If you have a great idea for improving inefficiency - either one that you have implemented or one that you hope to try, write a post and submit it to the "Eliminating inefficiencies in real estate" contest.  Check out the rules at that post.

Susan- I just went to the site.  What a great idea and I know what you mean.  Often I just need a few pages but end up buying the set of 50.  I try to stay from as much paper as I can but still need it for certain apps.

I hate when the kids say "I need a piece of graph paper" then you run out for a whole pad, and they never use it. Great Idea, print what you need!
