Looking back at the “Glory Days” of real estate is counterproductive.

You can't make me LOVE it.

I didn't want to have to sell short sales.

I didn't want to have to deal with the myriad of foreclosure transaction management platforms.

I didn't want to have to have sell homes priced half that of the recent past.

I didn't want to watch our industry contract to half it was in the recent past.

I didn't want to spend many hours seeking financing alternatives for home buyers.

I didn't want to watch helplessly as the financial institutions profitted from the misery of Upside Downhome owners in distress.

I didn't want to watch home owners lose their security, their savings, their homes and dreams.

I didn't want to totally lose confidence in the legitimacy of our representatives in government.

I didn't want to do a lot of things, but, as Richard says.

It is what it is.  I don't have to love it.

Looking back at the “Glory Days” of real estate is counterproductive.Like many other “old-timers, I have a tendency to look back with tremendous fondness at the “Glory Days” of real estate.

I relate tales to the newer agents about how we used to do this and that, and how transactions were run through the pipeline as swift as a tumbling mountain stream.

But those days re gone and there is a new reality. And while it is perfectly fine to remember how real estate was sold in the past, one must accept the fact that there is a new way of doing business and that it is here to stay.

Living in the past is just fine for retirees. But for those of us still working in real estate sales, we have to get with the program or perish.

It is what it is, and we all must learn to love it!

Lenn:

Your preface to the reblog could be a "Featured" blog in itself.  Very powerful statements!  Those of us who've been around for a long time have seen and experienced monumental changes in our industry.  You've presented a sad but true account of how much has really changed since the "glory days."  Thank you for expressing what many of us truly feel!

Well....I didn't get to be in the "glory" days :).  All I can do is listen to other's stories of the good ole days lol :)!  Perhaps someday the market will come back up to an easier time for agents...that would be nice :)!

Carie.  Thanks.  I believe that is Richard's statement in his heading.

Brenda.  You missed a real experience.  Of course you have to have been around BEFORE the boom to appreciate it.

Richard.  My pleasure.  You inspire me.

Looking both back and forward I have to say I'm thankful for this length downturn.  It's allowed me personal growth in this business and expanding from my niche and find new passion for helping people.  And with it so much harder to get to things to close, it is so much more rewarding when it happens.

Tammy.  Sadly, the protracted moribund real estate market is only harmful to home owners, home buyers, most agents, the economy in general.

If people think things are going to come back, they will be waiting for a long time.  It's over.

This is the new normal.  How fun...
