More car dealerships in Searcy AR in 1965.

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Advantage

Here are two more car dealerships that were active in 1965 in Searcy Arkansas as seen in a 1965 high school yearbook.  Sleuths, do you know who they are and where they were?

Aclin Car Dealership

Bolton Cadillac 1965

And while we are at it, we might as well show this dealership that is slightly out of Searcy but not very far. They advertised New and Used Parts, Car Parts Galore, Lots of Good Used Cars, A Bonanza of Bargains and Wrecker Service.

Is the first gentleman Mr. Carder of Carder Buicks / Olds? Don't know his first name.

I asked my husband who the first man was and he didn't know.  He said the girl with Mr. Bolton was Mr. Bolton's daughter.

Former Searcian, it is not Mr. Carder of Carder Buick.

Harold Gene, now you have started another controversy.  : )  Hubby, the ex-car dealer, says it is not Cal Aclin but he said Aclin had a spiffy-dressing person who worked there and it might be him.  The Sleuths must answer this question for us.

Kay, don't you just love the pictures of old cars....in black and white?  I do.

I will second Dude's 'motion' that the first man is NOT Cal Aklin.   I always loved the name of Cal's wife:  Priscilla.   Cal had two sons who worked with him when he owned International Harvester.....they were James and Horace.  I don't think this man is either son.

Anita, thanks for the back-up!  I'll catch Jim Baugh and ask him.  He knows everyone.

Irene, all I can say is WOW!  Your son has a fancy car!  Thanks for the comment and the friendship.

Why wouldn't the gentleman in the first picture be the manager James Aclin?

Also he might be Ray Stanley, the sales manager.

As I said earlier, it is NOT James Aclin.  I know James and Horace.....both lived very close to me on Arch St.

O.K.Anita. Was James nicknamed Cal? You said he wasn't Cal Aclin.

Off to coffee with my chronies. This will be the 21 yr. of our meeting Mon. and Thur. at the Coffee  Society in Cupertino, CA. Tables and chairs are arranged for us in a certain area. Life is good.

One can bring their own cup as large as they want and fill it for $1.25. When we first started, a cup was 75 cents.

Thank you, Mary, for reading and digesting what I said!  Cal Aklin is the father of James and Horace.  Neither son is named Cal.

Don sounds like he's been drinking too much coffee.  He needs to get on back to Arkansas and let us Sleuths straighten him out.

Don, that's a great picture that you uploaded.  I have sent Ray Stanley's daughter a request to check this picture and see if it is her dad.  Jim Baugh didn't know who he was.

Anita, I'm working on it.  Some things are just harder to find answers to.

Mary, that Don and Anita might get so hot that their bread will burn!  'Cept Don ran off on another trip.  Reportedly the two of them make some kinda strange bread.

Brenda Scott

The man in the first picture is Ray Stanley when he was manager of Acklin Motors in 1965.  After he left Acklin, he opened Stanley Motor Company in Bald knob and operated it until his death in 1977.

Well, despite all the misunderstandings of my Cal Aclin statements by the ladies, I got a maybe correct.=)

Also, at least, I got the name Aclin right . Most of you said Aklin. Do I smell bread burning in the oven, Anita?

Keep digging into those SHS Annual ads, Barbara.

Brenda Stanley Scott!!  Thank you for solving our mystery.  Your dad was a handsome fellow in this picture.

Don, I went into the old Person Furniture building today and came out with some grimy but possibly priceless pictures from some old calendars!  Coming up on the blog soon!!  Make up with Anita now so you can finish the bread making.

Wow!  Good sleuthing, Barbara.  That Stanley man is one good looking "dude"......apologies to you know who.

I haven't made any bread since Don left....we're partners.  He'll have to post some pics. of our ciabatta when he gets back.

Anita, so I have become a Sleuth in good standing?  : )  I had a few hints from my Dude and another sleuth or two.  I know Brenda but didn't know she was a Stanley since I didn't grow up here..............

My sources confirm the man in the first photo is indeed Ray Stanley. The Olds dealership in your photo was located on the Northwest corner of Moss and Race. The Olds building became the International Harvester dealership after the Olds dealership moved further East on Race. The International Harvester dealership building was torn down and replaced by a drug store.
