Friday brain teaser - do you have the correct change?

By

Scottsdale and Cave Creek Real Estate    What's the largest amount of money you can have in change and still not have change for a dollar?

Such a short little question, such a tough brain teaser.  Feel free to write your answer below - whether it's right or not.  It's tougher than it looks.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Dont get it?  But then I never do.  I would have thought 99 pence, but what do I know. '

I was thinking 99 cents also.  I must have read it wrong.

Juli,  Who is the spoiler?  It would seem to me that 99 pennies is the most change (assuming we mean coins) and still have have change for a dollar.  We could have unlimited variations of coins and bills and still not have change for a dollar.  We must use the smallest common denominator (a penny) in order to get the maximum. Make sense? It does to me (LOL)!

Three quarters and three dimes would add up to $1.05.  Are there better combinations?

Have a wonderful weekend.

Juli, too late in the day to rack the brain. I guess I'll come back tomorrow to see the answer, although #1 sounds pretty good

See, I think this blog should be called brain torture instead of brain teaser cause aside from the tiger last week I NEVER get this stuff.  Even if #1 is the answer....I don't know the answer. Guess my brain just fires on different cylinders. But I'll keep tuning in.

Juli, I agree with #1 except that using $1 coins would result in an infinite amount.  There is a way to use more coins and still arrive at the same "largest amount of money", but I ain't telling :)

Heh, it is all in how you read the question. LARGEST amount of change is the key.

My brain isn't willing to work that hard today. I hope you tell us the answer.

$1.19. Three quarters, four dimes, and four pennies.  Although the spoiler alert, #1 came up with the same number of coins.  I'm guessing there's actually quite a few answers.
