Spring Trail Update-Blue Hill in Sherburne County, MN

By
Real Estate Appraiser with Michael S. Bolton,Inc.

Spring has certainly arrived with record temperatures in the 70's, every vestige of snow has melted away. Blue Hill Trail is situated within the Sherburne County National Wildlife Refuge and is comprised of approximately 5 miles of hiking trails.

With the melting of the snow this trail tends to become flooded in early spring, especially in the lower lying areas, consequently I usually avoid hiking here this time of the year. However, given the dry fall, and the lack of snow this winter, I decided to take my trusty scout "Samson" with me and check out what the trail conditions were like. I always like to bring Samson along in case I run across any Wizards on the trail.

There were a couple of wet patches, which you can easily walk around, but nearly all of the trail was dry. There was one huge tree blown over in the middle of the trail, but for the most part the trail is in excellent condition. So dust off your hiking boots and enjoy a beautiful afternoon of hiking, the weather is supposed to be record breaking all week-Yahoo!!!

Michael sounds like you're a man on a mission!  A little wet ground never stopped an avid hiker :)  Howling winds of up to 70 mph, cold and brown outs of blowing sand here today with snow around us.  Odd weather in the desert land my man so enjoy your spring hikes enough for us too!

Sweet! If it doesn't rain this week (which I hope it does) maybe we'll head up there. That'd be great fun.

Michael - I'm sorry! You never did get much of that snow you love.

I'm a little envious of your warm weather. It was pleasant out today - high 40's and no rain - but for the past week it's been nothing but dark and wet. We've alternated between pounding rain and sleety snow. My parking lot is nothing but MUD.

I just keep telling myself that mud season has to come before gardening season, so "Look past this mess and focus on the reward."

John~It's hard to imagine what a brown out would be like, hopefully things change for better soon.

Hey Chuck~I bet everyone wanted you on their side! :)

Hi Lindsey~Yes we sure could use the rain, some of the ponds along the trail are just about dried-up, kind of crazy.

Joni~Everytime I got Samson to look at me, he would turn his head when I pointed the camera at him, he's getting a little obstinate in his old age.

Hi Marte~Yes, I sure missed the snow this year, it was a good thing I got a lot of skiing in the year before. It's been real hard not to want to start my garden yet, but heck, this is only the middle of March so there is plenty of time. Hope this warm-up and dry out for you soon.

Make it an AWESOME day!

....Experience Isn't Expensive.... It's Priceless!

Good morning Michael,

Samson looks like the perfect hiking companion - but, he obviously does not like being on camera!  Enjoy your week!

Thanks Lisa! He's a great hiking partner, although he's getting up there in age (14 years), so I have to take it easy on him.

Have an AWESOME day!

Michael, A hike sounds like a great way to enjoy that Spring (or summer?) weather.  Have fun.  Samson's comment reflects his expression perfectly.

Lloyd, I'm sure enjoying the early spring season, we just got our first spring rain shower, which was a welcome relief. Samsons my bud, he's getting up there in age, but he really enjoys going along on my hikes.

Roy, Yes....he sure does enjoy being outside, much better than getting his picture taken.

Make it an AWESOME day!
