Blue Springs Community Garden Water Spicket

A few months ago my husband and I noticed a home at the corner of 10th and Walnut that had been there for decades was suddenly no longer there. We started watching what was going on as we drove by. We noticed what looked like water spickets protruding out of the ground all over the lot where the old house once stood. We wondered what the owner was doing with the lot.

Last week the mystery was solved. We drove by and saw a sign stating community garden with some information.

Community Garden Kalene Bagwell

This is the City of Blue Springs Missouri's first community garden! The Blue Springs Community Garden is located in Central Park on the corner of Walnut and 10th Street. The community garden will be a shared piece of land. The land is subdivided into individual plots to grow vegetables and flowers.

There are an estimated 35 plots and 5 raised plant beds that will be available to residents of Blue Springs to rent for the 2012 growing season. The community garden will have water access and participants will be able to plant both vegetables and flowers in their plots.

Gwen,  I think it's a great idea too! More people are becoming aware of the health benefits of whole foods as well as the added peace of knowing there are no harmful pesticides and injected hormones in vegetables grown at home. Wish I had a greenhouse to grown my own year round!

Chris and Maria, I am really trying to focus on writing posts that pertain to the more specific areas where I want to work. I have a wide radius of the Kansas City Metro Area that I work in but when I help people purchase and sell in Blue Springs it's home!

Kalene, what a popular thought!    In Denver, we have a few in the downtown area where the yard sizes are smaller!    Families love this!

Joan,  Yes, I thought it was a good idea. I think I will rent a plot just to see how popular will be here.  I noticed when I was in Kansas City on Friday that they are not doing the community garden there this year.  I don't know why? I think growing food this summer that could be shared with those who can't always afford good vegetables would be nice as well. I also thought about having my teen sons set up a booth at the farmers market to make a little spending money this summer. I'll write another post as things happen! Thanks for the positive comment!
