Kiss Your Blackberry Goodbye - Is it RIP for RIM?

By

KomoNews.com says, "Struggling BlackBerry maker Research in Motion Ltd. said Thursday that it plans to return its focus to its corporate customers after failing to compete with flashier, consumer-oriented phones such as Apple's iPhone and models that run Google's Android software."

     Christina Warren opines on Mashable:

"What RIM needs is an excellent device. One that will win back users because of it’s great user interface, solid features and winning design.

With the BlackBerry 10 operating system, RIM hopes to achieve those goals. Its previews have been positive, and the underlying ecosystem at the heart of BlackBerry 10 is promising."

Dan Frommer on ReadWriteWeb  says,

"This is a completely different company than the one that helped lead the smartphone revolution over the past decade, and even than the one we knew just a year ago, when it was at least still profitable.

Not only is RIM in worse financial shape, but all bets are off for its recovery."

     Guardian UK reports:

"The BlackBerry maker, Research in Motion, is to pull back from trying to compete with Apple's iPhone and the Android mobile platform and instead return to its original focus on business users.

The shift in strategy came with a management shakeup that includes longtime executive Jim Balsillie leaving the board and severing ties with a company he helped build."

Fred - All I can say is I love my Apple iPhone and can not imagine using anything else.  I just can't say enough good things about it.  Just this ole Realtors opinion.

Fred, I loved my iPhone and I really love my droid, a Samsung Galaxy S II. I did have a BlackBerry before I got an iPhone and even though I had no complaints about the BB, I wouldn't go back to one now. :)

Fred ~ I heard about this over the weekend. Incredible that the BB will soon be a thing of the past.

Fred,

I'm a Blackberry owner and I do think it's time to say adios and meet the IPhone. Change is hard but necessary.
