Managing social media for both your personal life and your business life can be a sticky situation. With the little amount of time you have each day to work on social media, it can be difficult to keep track of what you’re posting or blogging about to ensure it’s timely, relevant and engaging. As always, your real estate virtual assistants are here to give you a few reminders on how to stay on top of things! 

As real estate virtual assistants, we are also planners and know that everything we do needs to have a clear purpose. What we tweet for you isn’t just a bunch of retweets by other companies or mindless nonsense, but it’s researched and articulated information that we believe will attract an audience and distinguish you as a knowledgeable agent. So when you’re Facebook-ing, tweeting, Pinterest-ing, LinkedIn-ing and whatever else it is you do to remain social, keep in mind and think about the deeper meaning behind it and ask yourself “is this something my audience will want to read/know/learn more about?” We promise this will get the social media juices flowing! 

SocialMediaToday.com published a great article on how to balance your social media strategy, and we decided to take that information and put our own spin on things. 

Stick to the Plan: Remember that strategy you created to make sure your social media goals were reachable? Well, only one person knows what path your social media strategy should follow and that person is you. With that in mind, make sure that when you’re being social you are sticking true to your original objectives and goals. When you start your social media for the day, consider these questions. 

-Who is your audience? What do they need to know?

If you have a good grasp on your audience and your surroundings, finding things to post about will be a lot easier. Remember to be versatile. While you want to present educational information it’s still important to be casual and conversational to build that deeper connection with your audience on a more personal level. 

Focus on Work: It’s so easy to get derailed when you are trying to conduct social media for work. You see a status update from a friend and the next thing you know you’re perusing your personal newsfeed, gazing at pictures of your friends/family and liking/commenting like crazy. Trust me, I have been there…often. The time you take to sit down and be social for your business may be few and far between or for only a short period each day. For this reason, the time you spend on social media should be used effectively. If you find yourself having trouble staying away from your personal accounts, let your real estate virtual assistant take over the work aspect of things. 

Post What Matters: Randomly retweeting and posting articles is not going to give you the social media results you desire any time soon. I’m not saying that retweeting or posting articles is forbidden. What I am saying is that if you are going to do these things, put your own two cents in on the topic you are responding to. Instead of just retweeting an article about rising home sale prices from CNN.com, retweet AND add a little snippet about your own experience – perhaps how your last three sales were above list price. Additionally, put a hashtag next to the name of the city the homes were sold in and always make sure to give credit to the original tweeter. In a nutshell, don’t just regurgitate information, but expand on it! 

Don’t Overthink: This is something that even we have to remind ourselves about day in and day out. If you are spending more time thinking of something to post about than actually posting, maybe it’s time to take off that thinking cap and just be social. Spend more time commenting on other people’s posts or replying to interesting tweets. It’s easy to get caught up on having a heavily populated page or Twitter feed rather than taking notice of what other people are doing, too.
