Santorum Folds 'Em

Rick SantorumFormer Senator Rick Santorum has suspended his campaign for the White House.

Full details at NewsMax <link to story>

I think the upcoming primary election in his home state of Pennsylvania caused Senator Santorum to reconsider his position and, perhaps, led him to walk away from the table with his winnings intact.

Rick Santorum and FamilyTwo term Senator Santorum lost his last bid for re-election in 2006 by a significant 17%, a loss that could end the career of most politicians.  But by his performance in the Presidential Primaries, Rick has rehabilitated himself and has become a spokesman for his causes once again.

If he were to lose to Governor Romney in his home state primary, many commentators have suggested that he would be giving up much of what he has gained.  He has now demonstrated that he may have a future as a candidate from Pennsylvania or as a member of a Republican administration. So he has wisely suspended his campaign, having won enough delegates and primary elections to be a voice in the party and at the Tampa convention in August.

Also many stakeholders in the Republican party have said that the bitter and personal campaign against front-runner Romney is hurting the party and it is time to focus on making Barack Obama a one term President in November.

Good choice, Rick.  Best wishes to you and your family.

Romney, is not my ideal candidate. But for the sake of the party and the November election it was time for Santorum to go and past time for Newt to go. We need to support Romney and be sure that come January 20, a new President is taking the oath of office.

Ted... I do think that Mr Romney has the best chance to unseat President Obama... but watch out, Governor Romney.  Now that Santorum is OUT... it's time for my guy... Jon Huntsman... to make his big move.  Whaddya think ?  LOL.

Actually... Huntsman was and still is my favorite Republican out of all those who formally entered the race.

If Marco Rubio is chosen as the Vice Presidential candidate, the GOP can win this election.

Fred, you are dead-on accurate.  Rubio would seal the deal.

Best for the party for Santorum to end this. Others like Paul and Newt have nothing to lose.

Karen Anne -

I agree with you.  Jon Huntsman was and is my choice also from the candidates on offer this season.  But I do not always get what I want.  Sometimes that is a good thing.

Thanks to all for stopping by.

Ted:  You know... IF... having a third party could every be a viable alternative... I could actually vote for Jon Huntsman.  I wonder if there ever, ever could be a way where something like that could work.  Take the right-most 15% and the left-most 8%... and let them play by themselves, and take the remaining middle 77% and have them form a Centrist Party.  I don't think it has ever worked, but sometimes I sure wish it could.

GOP Super PACS are out raising money for Mitt and the sooner he has his VP pick - the sooner they can play on a level political court
