With the introduction of Facebook’s new Timeline for ALL business pages, your focus may have drifted away from keeping up with your other social media efforts. I mean, creating the perfect cover photo takes time and you of course want to monitor all the feedback it’s getting.
Now that the initial shock of the Timeline has subsided, it’s time to start getting back into the swing of what I’d like to call “Facebook and Beyond.”
Let’s talk about Twitter: A few years ago Twitter was viewed as the ultimate online cocktail party. It was easy to get found and even easier to meet, greet and make connections. Today, Twitter is huge and everyday more and more Twitter handles are being created. According to TwopBlog.com, 11 accounts are created every second. Wow! Makes you truly feel like one in a million, right? It will take some hard work to get noticed and obtain followers. From one Twitter user to another, here are some tips to keep your Twitter account booming!
Keep it Simple: One thing that really backed Twitter’s success is its utter simplicity. Think about it. Telling the world what you have to say in 140 characters or less? It doesn’t get much simpler than that. But somehow people manage to make their tweets complicated and don’t quite get the message across. While you want to put thought into your tweets, make sure the message is clear and easy to understand. People see TONS of tweets on their feed and you want yours to make an impression.
Be Hashtag Friendly: We all want to use hashtags in all of our tweets – but there is such a thing as hashtag overload. Be smart when it comes to using these and handle them with finesse and care. Try limiting yourself to three hashtags per tweet, and also avoid beginning a tweet with a hashtag. Using too many hashtags or starting with a hashtag gives off a “spammy” vibe and your tweets may be overlooked. Having trouble finding the right hashtags? Compile a list of words that mean the most to you and your brand and try using them in most of your tweets. You can also run a keyword search to find the most used hashtags and find the ones that fit best with your message.
Enhance Your Profile: Even some pretty big companies haven’t completely grasped the concept of optimizing their Twitter profile. There are some specific strategies in the Twitter world that will help you rise above the competition. For your username, profile name, picture and short bio, you should be maxing out with keywords and branding to make yourself more distinguished and identifiable. For starters, your username and the name under your profile settings are what you’re known for. Keep them simple so people will remember you but also representative of what you do. Additionally, use a branded photo and load up your bio with strategically placed keywords.
Be Yourself: We’ve suggested this in many of our Facebook blogs and I am reiterating it for Twitter. When you’re tweeting for your business, there is nothing wrong with adding in a few personal tweets here and there. You are building a brand for your business, yes, but you are also a real person and you want people to see that in order to establish a deeper connection. In order to get the best results from social media, it will require some fun and entertainment.
