GMAIL, HOTMAIL & YAHOO! Are All Unprofessional Email Accounts For Real Estate.

Reblogger Kristin Hamilton

I think what Greg Nino has to say here is too true. When I left one major company and went to another, I had to scramble to get my email addresses as they typically get upset when you quit and shut you down fast. I have a gmail account now. I wonder what everyone else thinks out there? Please take a look at Greg's post.

What do you think? Tell Greg.

My email is EverydaySOLD@gmail.com. But some of my industry friends tell me I should have GregNino@GregNino.com as it is more professional.

I disagree.

My current website provides 10 free email accounts. But I'm not interested in using them. If I decided to quit using the website I'd lose the email account. If the company has problems with their servers or suffers a power outage then I'll be without email. Both of these examples have occurred when I had my email account affiliated with a website. Not getting emails is like not putting tires on race car.

Google isn't going to have outages and crashes with GMAIL. That's my opinion anyways. They have plenty of resources to ensure my email account doesn't experience any interruptions.

The same can be said for my brokerage. I wouldn't want to setup gregnino@remax.net as it's too labeled. At some point I may decide to leave RE/MAX.

No matter what choices I make I can keep my gmail.com email account and not worry about switching anything. I doubt very seriously a prospect is going to not work with me or contact me because my email has gmail.com at the end of it.

Hi Allan,

I have 5 different Gmail accounts and use them for different groups. I have one just for email places I sign up for so I get all the spam in that one.

Hi Kristin,

In some ways I agree and others I don't. Hotmail especially looks like a cheap freebie and I've ALWAYS heard the same. However I imho gmail does have a different connotation and personally wouldn't have a problem with that one.

Yet using your own URL, is great...however I think the length of the URL is also a factor. Meaning a longer name is a cumbersome URL for consumers. Fortunately for Gregg and others who have short names it's great. Yet a name like mine (& I do have my own name URL which points to other places) has more that double the characters is longer than some fields allow for an address...therefore in the long-run it doesn't work as well for me.

Totally disagree with Greg.  Time to resurrect an old post of mine that brought many out of the woodwork on this topic.  Thanks for the reblog, Kristin!

Hi Lynda,,

One reason I like Gmail is if the attachment, usually an offer, that is a large attachment, my Keller Williams email will not accept it and it gets sent back but it takes hours. Gmail takes larger attachments so I usually get it. I agree that hotmail sounds like a freebie but Google is pretty cool and respected. You make some good points though and I see your point. Thanks for sharing.

I agree with Greg.   Yahoo, Gmail, Windows Live are all viable email accounts, and nobody sticks up their nose at them.

One thing that is for certain - if an Agent uses "John Doe at ABC Realty . com", and then leaves ABC Realty, they will be up the proverbial creek.

Hi Fred,

I know exactly what you mean. When I left my company and went to another one, luckily my web site has good Google juice so my listings and articles showed up but Google picked up on my Website Title " Homes for Sale in Redlands" so I think I got a lot of my emails since they ended up at my website which is my name.

IMHO * e-mail snobs do themselves a GREAT disservice.  By concentrating on the part before the @, I am able to provide my e-mail address and have it REMEMBERED without a fancy name after the @

CVILLECPM @ works for AOL, GMAIL and HOTMAIL - they all get to me and I know where they are coming FROM which is more important to me

LandlordWhisperer also works

Hi Wallace,

Thanks for the tips as I will have to try that one too. Yes, the important thing is to get your emails and not miss a call from a client.
