Three ActiveRainers Know How to Escape a Rainy Day

By
Real Estate Agent with GreatWest Realty DRE# 00827565

When I stepped out of my house at about 11:30 am today, it was pouring rain, with a lot of hail slurried in.  What a perfect day to have lunch at Biba’s in the midtown section of Sacramento.  Biba’s is known for her wonderfully authentic Italian dishes with the freshest of ingredients.  And the restaurant has received accolades by food aficionados of many respected places – Gourmet Magazine, Travel & Leisure, Restaurateur, to name a few.

Owner, Biba Caggiano, is the noted TV Chef Author and Teacher of Italian Cooking, who adds her special magic and delight to her dishes of Northern Italian decent.

When I stepped out of my car, the clouds had parted, and patches of blue sky were revealing themselves.  I stepped inside Bibas, and soon after met up with fellow ActiveRainers, Elizabeth Weintraub and Cathy McAlister.

The pictures below illustrate our 2 hour experience together over a delightful lunch  Biba's is located at 2801 Capitol Avenue, Sacramento 95816.

Cathy McAlister and Biba
Cathy McAlister and Biba Caggiano.  Biba whispered to Cathy to guard her dish with her life.  The dish pictured below was housemade fettucine with smoked salmon, chives, lemon zest, paprika and cream.  Apparently it was exceptionally good today!

My dish was pan roasted sword fish with tomatoes, capers and peas.  Also included was grilled polenta to the side.

Paul - But when the clouds do part, Tacoma is a very gorgeous place.  Heck, it's pretty most of the time anyway:-)

Gary - It really was.  I wish I could go volunteer in Biba's kitchen, chopping onions, long enough to learn how to cook a few of those dishes.

Lou - It wouldn't have been half as much fun on a hot summer day!

Your hail storm hit me about 3 hours later as I was driving back to Lodi from Modesto ... the 99 northbound was a white ice pea-sized covered parking lot!  At least folks slowed down .... and I would have far preferred your comradeship at lunch!

Myrl, I can imagine no finer companions for lunch than you and Elizabeth.  With all the talk about travel, food, wine and real estate .... it was just the best time.      It was great to share the time, laughter and good food with both of you.    Thank you so much for sharing the photos.

Teral - Yes, it was like a mini-meetup.  However, we've done it before.  And Elizabeth and I have seen each other a number of times.

Jack - The weather has been lions, tigers, and bears, on and off most of the day.  Absolutely crazy out there:-)

William - I had such a great time at Biba's that I immediately went to Amazon.com and ordered up 7 of Biba's cooking books.  I foresee a lot of saturation into Italian cooking for awhile.

Cathy - Yes, there is always a lot of laughter.  I swear we travel around the globe without ever leaving our seats, when we have lunch together:-)

Put 40 years of experience to work for you

I haven't had breakfast yet, so looking at those photos is making me hungry this morning. The rain is still pelting down outside pretty hard, and it's pitch black here. Nice to recall the great time and interesting company yesterday. You know, every so often I get an invitation to a meetup in Sacramento but they are always way out somewhere, away from the core. If there were meetings scheduled near my home in Land Park or my office in Midtown, I would likely go.

Of course, nothing is as much fun as you guys. I can't believe how fast the time went. The only thing that is better than combining fabulous food and wonderful friends is sharing a bottle of wine. We should probably plan on a future dinner, maybe by limo so none of us has to drive.

Hey Elizabeth - When I got home yesterday afternoon, I ordered up 7 of Biba's various cookbooks she has written.  When they arrive, I'm going to saturate myself with those books until I learn to cook up some of those dishes.  THEN, we could do dinner at my house.  I'll do the cooking.  You and Cathy can bring the wine and your sleeping bags.  No limo needed:-)

Myrl,

If I had known, I could have been persuaded to fliy up to Sac for a meal at Biba's.  When we lived in Napa, we used to fly out of SAC airport one of the best airports in CA, and try to time departures and arrivals with a meal at Biba's.  She is a lovely lady, and I have a cookbook that she wrote with Leo Buscaglia autographed by both of them.  A
