Pet Love in the Rain

I lost my precious little Jack Russell Terrier this past year and I was heartbroken.  I had her for 13 years and she was my "baby".

If you know anything about Jack Russell Terriers, you know they have tons of energy!  She was such a clown and she made me laugh.  I loved that little girl so much and it was extremely difficult to let her go.

When she was about 11 years old she developed diabetes.  My husband is a diabetic and one of the symptoms which helped the doctor diagnose him was his insatiable thirst.  I noticed that my little girl was drinking lots and lots of water and took her to the vet and he did diagnose her with diabetes.

So, she was put on insulin shots twice a day.  She knew what time she was supposed to have her shots and if I was running late, she would sit in front of the refrigerator.

The tough day came when the vet recommended that I have her put to sleep.  I cried and cried for days.  The first night I sat down and wrote a blog here in the rain about my loss.  The outpouring of sympathy and kindness from this great community was such a huge blessing to me.

That is the night I was given the gift of a beautiful poem called "The Rainbow Bridge".  I still have that poem and it was exactly the medicine I needed for my broken heart.

From deals falling apart to the loss of a loved one - person or pet- the compassionate folks her in the rain will circle the wagons and share their strength and understanding.

Sorry to hear about you beloved Jack Russell. I know only too well how the pain never really leaves us. Too many memories. My saving grace after losing my pets is to rescue another dog in their honor.

My veterinarian gave me two books, but the one that really touched me is Love Heels (about Canine Companions for Independence) since my late dog was a trainee in the program.

Sincerest condolences

Hi Pam.

I know the pain all too well, we get to have them for such a short time.  I remember my  golden when he was just 8 weeks old and that seemed like yesterday, he is now 12 1/2 years old!

I also know that pain.  And I know how loving and supportive this community can be too.  I'm so glad they were here to comfort you.  And glad I have gotten to know you better through this contest too.

So sorry!  Hard enough to lose a pet, but agonizing to have to make that decision, even though you know they are in pain.

Pam~my dear friend, Sharon Lee (here in ActiveRain)has a plaque with her cat Lindsey's beautiful face on it and The Rainbow Bridge as a memorial to her sweet kitty. I don't know where she got it, but it's one of those incredibly touching poems that can make one fall to pieces while reading it.

I have found such support here with our Pet Friendly Folks in the Rain!

Pam, this is a wonderful community to reach out to in our times of pain...and joy.  I'm so happy that even though it didn't seem long enough, the time you did have with your little Jack Russell was filled with shared love.
