LETS MAKE A STEAL IS REPLACING LETS MAKE A DEAL

BUSINESS THEFT...I went into a store the other day and had noticed on the ceiling all these black plastic bubbles. The eye in the sky watching over everything. Then, there are metal devices that are attached to the more expensive items that trigger an alarm if not detached or deactivated. Losses from theft are real

I COUNTED 25-30 EYE IN THE SKY

THIS IS NO JOKE

These losses can be real business killers. Many companies have gone under from lax security from both the public and the employee or insider. Furthermore, if anyone gains access to any online records, they can steal data or manipulate income and expense reports. Withdrawals or charges on peoples account can be made and not discovered timely

EMPLOYEES HELP THEMSELVES

Employees do more harm to the inner workings of an operation than the public at large is what the latest figures are showing. Being on the inside allows more latitude in the thieving process. Stealing supplies, food, items, and even time by claiming hours not worked are reported.

DETERRENT TO EMPLOYEE THEFT

Giving the employees discounts makes for buying instead of lying.  In restaurants, feeding them helps reduce theft. In one restaurant, everyone sat down to a family meal before opening. Then, off to work. In another, they all work hard and then right after lunch rush, sit down to a generous meal. No need to steal...

EMBEZZLEMENT

It appears that where there is an opportunity, some people will take it if they give in to the temptations. Our local newspapers are filled with embezzlement stories. They all get caught in the end. It is just a matter of time. Amounts vary from thousands to nearly a million stolen and undetected for quite some time

Running a business comes with known and unknown risks...

Richie - WOW!  I am glad that the stores do try to protect against theft as this cost all of us!

Barbara....we all now know how those losses are passed on to consumers. Then, if the consumer stops buying, we are doomed

Richie - some people would say it's a sign of the times - things are rough.  But theft hurts everyone and there is never an excuse for stealing.

Hello Margaret...It is well known that the rough times play a part. It is even more well known that people who participate are not only weak, but poor in spirit too. There is a reason for everything, some easier to understand than others. The people who run businesses take big risks...things should slant in their favor when possible

Richie- some people take the attitude that the big companies make so much money they can afford it.  Well, the problem is that the companies have to pass this added operating expense on to the consumers.  I like some of the companies who pass on company profits etc to the employees, making them in a way shareowners in their own company.

Richie,

In the end, as consumers, we all pay a little bit more to account for the theft that goes on in retail stores. I'm absolutely fine with stores protecting their assets.

Richie to Rich...one has to wonder what the true cost of something is when you subtract loss prevention offsets..Theft is actually an item listed on the profit & loss sheets..
