Strut Your Stuff, Elk River High School Art Students!

By

Elk River High School  art students picked up 13 awards in the Visual Arts Minnesota regional, currently on display at Paramount Theatre in St. Cloud, announced their teacher, Rana Nestrud.

This is a great achievement for the students and the high school, along with their instructors.

Getting first-place honors were senior Molly McLain (works on paper), senior Samantha Phillips (mixed media), junior Nicole Smith (jewelry), senior Nikole Anderson (drawing) and senior Abigail Wright (painting).

Second-places were earned by junior Nate Myhre (ceramics), senior Ashley Holst (jewelry), senior Ryan McDermond (painting) and Michelle Botts (sculpture). Placing third were Nikita Skorykh (ceramics), Kelsey Laugen (jewelry) and Morgan White (sculpture).

There were photographs of some of the works in the local newspaper, the Elk River Star News.  If you get a chance to check out the display at the Paramount Theatre, I think you would be impressed....perhaps, you could pick up a piece of work by a yet unknown star artist.

Have a great weekend!

Don,

I love those events.  I would have loved to see the artwork, as it is always intriguing what people come up with.  A few years ago, the U had an art contest, and I received the newsletter and was mesmerized by the work that was created.  It is always a mind and heart opener.  A

Now, that is something to be proud of.  I was an artist once, too.  We still have one painting of mine hanging in the house....it's in one of the hallways.

It sounds like you have some pretty talented artists up your way. In third grade my daughter won an award for a fall sunset picture she painted. All of the kids had their stuff displayed at a local art gallery. It was really neat.

Strut their stuff is right.  Sometimes this can make a career..or, as in Ron's case, a very neat avocation.

Don -- great localism post -- with so many school districts cutting back on arts programs it is good to hear that Elk River High School's art program is thriving.
