So, i send out 1,000 over-sized postcards every month to my sphere of influence, past clients, prospective clients, etc... When it comes to Christmas time, I increase the number of mailings to include almost everyone in my database. This year I mailed 1241 Christmas cards, each hand-signed by me and I also took the effort to make sure each card said "Merry Christmas" either on the outside or hand written on the inside.
I also include my miniature 2008 magnetic calendar which ends up on 80% of the refrigerators in my mailing list. y the way, most statistics are made up on the spot.
Any way, I send them all first class, sometimes costing extra postage for the size or weight. This year I received 80 returned cards that were undeliverable either because they moved, died, removed their mail box or whatever.
So, I guess that is a little over 6% waste of mailing the cards. The side benefit I receive, of course, is to update my database. this gives me the opportunity to either call them and touch base or to simply change or delete their contact information.
At any rate, I feel great about sending out personally signed cards, even if I have to use the pre-printed address lables. I also hand stamp each one...no metered mail here!
Wishing you all the best in your holiday season & a very Merry Christmas!
