Hi Maria- I'm familiar with KC.  Which building is it?  And you're right...the architectural detailing is very special.

What a craft that was!  Simply exquisite ... the attention to detail on these buildings is just unbelievable.  It's sad when you see a beautiful, older building being condemned and torn down.

Kathy, it's in midtown west of Hyde Park.

Carie, the architectural detail on buildings from this era is just incredible and not often done today. That's why I like to see them saved, renovated and re-used.

Just cost to much money to make a pretty building these days. Oh, they will make a structure unique by the architectural appeal is lacking.

I echo Carie's comment, Maria, you don't often see such craftmanship and detail.  Hopefully the building can be restored by a loving new owner...or that some of the architectural details can be saved!

Maria, That is quite the detail in that building's entrance. Hopefully it will be restored back to it's original luster and not torn down. Maybe it can be deemed historical to save it.

Than, you're right, there aren't many craftsmen who are skilled enough to do this type of architectural detail and those who can are quite expensive.

Hi Maria, I would bet someone is going to get the architectural details from this building. Even if torn down the details should still be available.

Paul, Kansas City has an abundance of buildings with intricate and ornate details. Getting them on the list to fight for preservation is one thing; getting someone to put up the money for renovation is another.

William, yes, there are several places that collect and re-sell construction materials - including the decorative components. There are also private collectors. I know a guy who has a three story house full of old cornices, doors, windows, hardware, moulding, bannisters - every part of a house you can imagine! He buys them, dismantles them, and stores the components in this one house. It's a really cool stone house built in the 1800's but there is only 1 little tiny path through the 1st 2 floors. Pigeons live on the 3rd floor. Hmm, I've digressed from the thread here.

Maria,

The detailing of old buildings is incredible.  With our technology today it might be easy to create but we don't see it much.  Had to be so hard with the tools they had when this was built.  Hope they can restore it.  It looks like a pretty big building!
