A Salute to St. Michael Minnesota

By
Real Estate Agent with Sabinske & Associates, Inc. (Albertville, St. Michael)

St. Michael was incorporated as a city in 1890 .  You can see many of the old photographs in businesses around town.  St. Michael was originally a village in central Frankfort, Minnesota ,which was started by Germans, but later became its own town in 1934. Frankfort was a combination of present-day Albertville, Minnesota, Hanover, Minnesota, and St. Michael, Minnesota.

St. Michael is centrally located between St. Cloud and Minneapolis along Interstate 94, which provides easy access to the Twin Cities and a variety of Minnesota's northern recreational areas.

St. Michael's rural feel, convenient location, good schools and abundant parks, lakes and natural resources, make it a great place to live and work.

There are still spots where you can find vestiges of the Big Woods, too, and one of our elementary schools is named for that part of our history.

Big Woods refers to a type of temperate hardwood forest ecoregion found in western Wisconsin and south-central Minnesota.   "Big Woods" is a direct translation of the name given to the region by French explorers: Grand Bois.

The Big Woods would have once covered 5,000 square miles (13,000 km2) in a diagonal strip 100 miles (160 km) long and 40 miles (64 km) wide. Today most of this region has been cleared for agriculture and urban development. Remnant and secondary stands of Big Woods remain in parks and other protected areas.

Interstate 94 and Minnesota State Highway 241 are two of the main arterial routes in the city.  The city currently has a population of 16,399, according to the 2010 Census.

School Information:

St. Michael is part of St. Michael-Albertville Independent School District # 885.   The St. Michael-Albertville school colors are royal blue and gold, and the mascot is the Knight. The school district consists of seven schools and two ALP academies The seven schools are St. Michael-Albertville High School (Grades 9-12), St. Michael-Albertville Middle School East (Grades 5-8), St. Michael-Albertville Middle School West (Grades 5-8), St. Michael Elementary School (Grades 1-4), Fieldstone Elementary School (Grades 1-4), Big Woods Elementary School (Grades 1-4), and Albertville Primary School (Kindergarten). The two academies are the Page Academy (Middle School alternative) and the Knights' Academy (High School alternative). There is also a private Catholic School for grades K-7 (with 8th grade to be added in 2012) in St. Michael.

There are things in here I didn't know, too, and I live here.  Nice shot of the Highlands, by the way.

Now, that was a nice spotlight on your town.  You should focus more on St. Michael and Albertville and less on day spas.

I remember this area as farm fields.  Now, hardly even a garden.

Great localism post. I'll have to take a lesson from you. I can't wait to visit. I want to see the headwaters of the Mississippi. I grew up on that mightly river in Illinois.

Suzanne,

What a lovely description of your town.  I was able to figure out where it was from the old maps in my head from Minnesota.  Anyone looking for a home in St. Michael's should not hesitate to contact you, pronto! A

That photo was taken last July.  Everyone always says my exterior shots are amazing, and they think that I photoshop them.  I don't.  I am just so lucky to pick great days to do photo shoots.
