"Great Water" status for the S. Johns River - more attention for St Augustine!

As if all the awards and national recognition that St Augusstine isn't enough, now the beautiful St Johns River, which flows through 13 counties including St Johns, St Augustine's home county, has been designated as a "Great Water", along with such better known and prestigous waterways as the Everglades, Chesapeake Bay, and the Hudson River. Apart from gaining name recognition, this should help put it in place for funding to clean and restore its waters. Did you know that this is the only river in this country to flow from south to north? I know the Nile is another one that flows "backwards" but can anybody remember some others? I know there aren't very many in the world. It is also Florida's longest river covering 310 miles!

Well, of course, it's not going to be any kind of quiet around St Augustine this weekend. The Cathedral Festival runs from  april 20-22 and get ready for A Taste of St Augustine, a Taste of the Beach, Kiss the Pig and, of course, our "World Famous" St Augustine "Rythym and Ribs" festival. Some like it hot!!
