Water in Your Birdbath? That Will Be $300

This headline in today's New York Times attracted my attention, being the owner of a back yard birdbath.

It seems homeowners are getting certified letters that their birdbaths are a hazzard and "standing" or "stagnant" (officials  have differing definitions) water can be a source of West Nile virus.  The owner of the featured birdbath says he changes the water every couple of days.

All I can say is that as much as I love NYC, I am glad I live in a place where there are no bird bath inspectors (other than the robins). Three cheers for Wilmington, Delaware!

Hmmmm....can we say taking it a bit to far??  I can see if they are having an outbreak but if they are just being proactive then I would say they have a lot of time on their hands.

I think they did have one case last year, but the person who was reported says he thinks a neighbor reported him.

Hi Carolyn, I'm with you. Too much of government involved in day to day life. We need to fix that and I hope one of these days soon.

William--I'm all for the Center for Disease Control, but local empire builders can get control crazy.
