Start out the New Year right by recycling your Christmas tree!

Don't send your Christmas tree to the landfill, instead you can recycle it and give a gift back to the earth. After the holidays, many communities will collect the trees through the residential curbside recycling program or at drop-off sites. Christmas trees can be chipped into mulch for use on gardens, parks, hiking trails, playground areas and landscaping. Whole Christmas trees can be used for river shoreline stabilization, beach erosion prevention, marshland sedimentation, fish habitat, winter garden decorations, wild bird feeders and even hazardous materials cleanups.

"The environment is where we all meet; where all have a mutual interest; it is the one thing all of us share. It is not only a mirror of ourselves, but a focusing lens on what we can become." - Lady Bird Johnson

Before you recycle your Christmas tree:

Remove all lights, ornaments and tree stands, including wooden stands and nails.
