Have you ever wondered how cheese is made or wished you could make it yourself? Here is a great opportunity for you to learn both.
Glenview's Wagner Farm is holding a Cheesemaking 101 Class on Saturday, May 5 from 9am to noon. Everyone over 18 is welcome to join the cooking class and make a farmers cheese of their very own to take home and enjoy. There will also be tips and recipes for making other cheeses.
Advance registration is required, and there is a $30 fee for residents and a $37.50 fee for non-residents. Wagner Farm is located at 1510 Wagner Road, Glenview and offers an array of fun things to do, especially in the spring, summer and fall.
If working on the farm is something that interests you and your family, you might want to come out to Wagner Farm on Saturday, May 19 from 12 noon to 3pm for "Springtime on the Farm". You'll enjoy some spring cleaning chores, working in the fields alongside real farmers, and perhaps going for a wagon ride. Snacks and beverages will be available for all hard-working farmhands. The cost is only $3 at the gate.
As always, parking at Wagner Farm is free, and there are no steps to negotiate here.
Wagner Farm is one of the few working dairy farms left in Cook County. It covers 18.6 acres and is home to a variety of farm animals including horses, ducks, geese and hens. There's also a petting zoo and a cow shed where kids can learn what it really means to live like an animal.
