Help is Needed for the Fulton Park Clean-up in Waterbury CT

Once the crown jewel of parks in Waterbury CT, Fulton Park has seen its landscape abused over the years due to neglect, tight municipal budgets, and vandalism.

Sunday, April 29, volunteers are asked to come out and help clean the park.

From 11 to 3, debris will be collected, flower beds raked, trash piled and discards brought to a central area for the town to collect on Monday.

Fulton Park in Waterbury CT is the largest of the city parks covering over 70 acres. At one time the flower beds were ablaze of colors as the park had its own greenhouse and full time gardener. Tight budgets have taken much of this away from the park, but it is still a great area to sit back and relax.

For the clean-up, volunteers are requested to bring their own gloves, rakes, shovels and other cleaning tools. The city is providing paper leaf bags. The event will also feature free kosher hot dogs, chips and drinks for lunch.

Last year over 100 volunteers came out for the clean-up event and they expect the same number to come out this year as well.

The Fulton Park Cleanup is Sunday April 29 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the park with a rain date of May 6. More information can be found at the Overlook Community Club website.

Ed, I love neighborhood clean ups - such a great way to give back, meet some new neighbors and get some exercise.  Here's hoping there are even more people at this year's Fulton Park Clean-up in Waterbury CT.

Hi Al & Peggy, this park is right across the street from a special Jewish school, and they are instrumental in getting this effort started. Doing the clean-up on a Sunday is to respect their holy Saturday, and they have almost of the older students helping.

Juli, there should be a good turnout as this park offers so much in that end of town.

Hi Ed.  Our parks are an important part of our community and our lives.   I hope the effort and turnout is good.   I think an important post to get the word out.
