SURVEY SAYS!!!  Staging not as popular with Realtors??  What's the REAL reason??

A post this morning got my attention with a title that referred to a survey by Homegain about staging and Realtor opinions.

The ActiveRain post didn't include a link to the HomeGain survey results but I found it in the HomeGain blog.

 Staging

The survey results include some common sense actions by home owner/sellers to help present their property for sale.  It doesn't take a Rhodes Scholar to know that common sense actions like: de-clutter, clean, make needed repairs, landscaping, etc. will help a property sell.

I also understand that many staging pros include these tasks in their staging advice.

LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE!!

Seems to me that the decline in the popularity of staging by Realtors may be directly related to the ECONOMY.

This survey shows a decline in the popularity of staging by Realtors.  However, I suspect that the decline in popularity of staging by Realtors is a result of the increase in foreclosures and short sales where staging isn't going to be nearly as important as the ALL IMPORTANT LIST PRICE.

AND THE BEAT GOES ON!!

HI Lenn-In my opinion, staging can be very helpful IF the seller can afford it.  Unfortunately, many of the sellers that I come across cannot afford a professional stager and need to "stage" it themselves.

If someones home is tastefully decorated, no staging is needed.  Problem is, most people think they have great taste.  I thnk staging does help in and empty home.

Brenda.  Fortunatelly, we Realtors with a lot of experience showing properties can help a seller prepare a property for market to appeal to prospective buyers.

Pamela.  I have always preferred to show vacant homes.  We can take our time and I can "chat" with buyers about how their own furnishings would work.  I suspect that I'm in the minority here.

Just like another post was suggesting we hire a $300 photographer to take pictures in all our listings. .I can just see my self doing that with a short sale. .

I walked into a house the other day that I thought people lived in!  They even had fake food in the fridge!

Have to admit, never saw fake food before.

Jay.  We see fake food in builders' decorated models regularly.  In staged homes for sale, it's just too much.  This is one of the things that I find so distracting about OVER-STAGING, which is done far too often.

I hope sellers are motivated to put their best foot forward when they sell a home. Home staging does that!

Thanks Lenn.
