Want to Be Read?  Then You Need to Expose Yourself! Binoculars

Gotcha!  Seriously folks, people here can’t read you if they can’t find you.
As I wander around the Rain, I will often stop by posts by Newbies or at least “New to Me” bloggers.  If the title catches my eye or if they have little or no comments I’ll pop in to say “hello”.

I’ve been doing a lot of that lately as I search for posts for my weekly “What I Learned in Active Rain this week” series.  Many have written about how to write a good blog post... what to include, adding photos or graphics,  no wall of words, bolding words for emphasis.

However,  if no one sees you what good does it do?

With so many Rainers posting, the blog log can whiz by.  Your post you just published could  be at the bottom or next page in the blink of an eye.  If you had subscribers,  you would come up in their Social Blog or on the right side of the Blog Log Page, which is a list of their Blog Subscriptions.

Bloglog

But, if no one can find you to read your post, how can they subscribe to your blog??
Join Groups and Post to Them!

ActiveRain lets you place each of your posts  in up to 5 Groups!  There are people who only go to the Groups to which they subscribe to read posts.  Not only that many Groups will feature posts within their Group.  This means you could hang at the top of that Group page a lot longer than you would in the general bloglog.

The point is your post for which you labored long stands a better chance of being read when posted to groups, especially if you do not have a lot of subscribers and/or are new to Active Rain.

Some points to remember:

1. Read the Group Guidelines!  For example, in the Stage It Forward Group, your post needs to be about Staging.  While the group welcomes Realtors, Inspectors, and any member of ActiveRain, it discourages Listings or anything non-Staging related.

2. Do Unto Others:  If you become a member, don’t just post there... read and comment on the posts of others in the group.

3. If you see a Goose Egg by a member’s post, stop in and leave a comment.

4. Some Groups are very topic specific and may not have a large # of members or the activity as a larger group.

5.  Vary the Groups to which you post.  If you are always posting to the same groups, then it’s pretty safe to say that, with a few exceptions,  the same people will see you.   Mix it up depending upon the topic of your post.

Cheryl- many thanks, and yes, titles will grab someone's attention which is what you want but hopefully your content will follow suit!

Toni- I think you have an excellent point.  I know that when i began here, it was so hard for me to learn what would be an appropriate topic for a blog other than staging.

Jennifer- Thank you so much and thank you for subscribing.

Roy- you have used my favorite color!  Love that flower

Joy- most of us here have been lucky and receive comments on our posts but it didn't start out that way.

Bryan- I agree with you!  I post to at least 5 groups 99% of the time.  And that's another reason why reblogging is good!

Curtis- I will send my thanks to Roy and thank you for coming by.  Hope to see you again!

Ellen- what a treat getting to talk to you today... thank you!

Joanna- just passing it along as it was done for me!

Karen- I do too.  Unfortunately i don't always have time to visit each one daily.

Very good advice. I just looked through groups, looking for more to join and was overwhelmed by the sheer number of them. It's hard to decide which groups will be the most productive for me. Sometimes I wish we could post to more than 5 groups per post, like when I have an awesome photo.

Congrats on your feature, Kathy. Very considerate of you to pay it forward. I need to take your advice and post to other groups. Fresh Eyes Joanna posted to a group called "Positive Attitude for the Weary Soul"... who knew?

Solid advice Kathy and congratulations on the feature. Too many newbies never discover the benefits of Active Rain because they don't bother getting properly involved, and if they do, some of them don't take advantage of all the bells and whistles.

I quit posting to most groups in late January. It just took too much time to go through all my groups and figure out which five I wanted to post to. Plus the buying and selling public isn't a member of groups and they are who I'm after.
