For thousands of years the Abenaki and Pennacook people have lived in New Hampshire, their ancestors are the one which actually gave the names to the Lakes, Ponds, Rivers and Streams, like Lake Sunapee and the Sugar River. Plus the landmark names which folks use in this here area.

Medicine Wheel

Native American History Program to be held in Unity New Hampshire, back when the White Colonial folks first started, which they called settling in the area, but I call what they did was stealing back in 1761. This area was still the center of the Abenaki and Pennacook homeland and there were many Abenaki and Pennacook people living in the area. Unfortunately the local Native American people of the Abenaki and Pennacook have been for the most part left out of the History that is taught in the Schools of New Hampshire Towns and the few Cities in the State. The folks which take the time to attend what sure should be a mighty fine program this evening, sure will get to learn about this here little known chapter of the Local History of the Native Americans which lived and call New Hampshire their home.

Hi Dale,

You are hitting a huge soft spot in my heart. I think I told you my Cousin who have reconnected with in the last 2 years ( after 30 years or so with no contact) and visited last October confirmed to me out great great grandmother was a Native American. She has proof and now we some how need to figure out which people she is a blood sister of and where they lived. My dad always talked about how one of our relatives had married a Native American but I could not verify this and he passed away without me getting any details. I was too young to have enough sense and I had two little kids by my first wife at that point and a very demanding job to get family data from him before he passed on. My huge error!

Many many years ago I always was attracted to Native American art, jewelry, pottery, etc. If I could I would love to attend the Native American History program in Unity. I wear Native American silver bracelets almost every day that we bought in the center from Santa Fe New Mexico from Native American craftsman's.
