Rain in Carlsbad New Mexico? Is this actually possible?

As many of you know, here in Carlsbad New Mexico we have not gotten but very, very little rain over the past couple of years.

I had just got home when the clouds started coming in from the South West.

The start of a good storm?

I thought this cloud looked pretty neat with the "mushroom shaped head" it was to get bigger.

Thunderhead growing in size.

And the last shot before it got too dark to stay out in the what we call the "RAIN".

Rain in Carlsbad, New Mexico

Yes we finally got some RAIN last night, and it's still raining this morning. In many parts of the country you have rain as a weekly occurence. Here... we have not seen a very good rain for at least "TWO YEARS".

Now you can see why I am getting excited.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day and week ahead.

Clint, We're on the other end of the spectrum in my part of Ohio.  We're getting rain every 2-3 days lately.  I can't get the lawn dry enough to actually mow and it's getting pretty wicked out there.

That's a long time!  Where do you get your water from?  Is there a reservoir nearby?  From the Colorado mountains?

Two years without a soaker is a long time Clint.  I have the same questions as Jay.  Where do you get your water?

The picture reminded me of my childhood when I used to love to watch the rain clouds and try to imagine what  animal or thing the shapes resembled.

We get rain here is South Florida all the time but occasionally it is weeks without a good soaker. You would be amazed at how fast the lawns start to look dead.

I have been to New Mexico several times and once to Carlsbad Cavern. I love it there but found I missed all of verdant green from home. Enjoy the rain while you have it.

I feel sorry for you... we get a little rain almost every night around here.  It's always green and lush, and great for growing almost anything.  Enjoy it while it lasts!

Wow. As much as I wished it would STOP raining last week, I think I would prefer our wet Spring to no rain at all.

Clint-- I grew up in Portales... so I'm familiar with the dry climate... now I live in the SoCal Mojave desert near Palm Springs... so rain is very scarce  here too!  Glad you got some rain!  Kathy

I am in Middle Tn, I would gladly share some rain with you. Of course I really have nothing to complain about. We have weeks and months we don't have any rain, but every once in a while we have it a week or more daily. It's those times I will share with you.

Hi John,

It also will bring out the weed growth in earnest. Time to get out the weed whacker.

Randy,

They seem to stay alive somehow. We have to water the yard of course. It would die in a week or so.

Anita,

Thanks for the comment. it has been two tears since our last good rain. Now it's still raining hard this morning. Makes it hard to inspect. But I will take the rain instead.

Michael,

Thanks for the comment.

Brandon,

I will have to check these out. I set this up when I was really green in the Rain. Thanks for the heads up.

Hi Team Honeycutt,

Yes we really enjoy sitting on the deck and watching the rain fall.

Ed and Tracy,

Business has picked up a lot this year. Word is getting out to a lot of Realtors I put out a very good report. No candy coated reports here.

Melissa,

I hope it's not very long. We are still about 12 inches behind where we usually are this time of year.

Richie,

It is such an awsome planet. Thank goodnes we can even live here. Mother nature is great.

Teri,

Even with what we have gotten in the last three days. We are so far behind where we usually are at. About 12" behind. But every little bit helps.

Hi Mike,

No thank you. We have waited long enough. I hiope we don't have any more wild fires this year.

Hi Adrian,

It's a little funny, but that's what we do when we see it might rain. We have had a bunch of chances, but no Rain totill now.

Evelyn,

All we are on average for is about eight inches a year. This has ot been the norn for about five years.

Richard,

So do we. But just getting it to rain here has been a lot of praying going on. LOL

Morgan,

Be glad you do. The water system needs to, the grass needs it. They were water rationing in town already.

Hi James,

That's what I was thinking as well.

In about two weeks now. I will get the shots of the wild flowers that will "POP OUT".

Hi Bliz Team,

One extreme to the other. At least your not on water restrictions.

Hi Jay,

We have a great "aquafer here". But it's getting low with nothing going into it for years.

Hello Conrad,

The same an aquafer. And we also have the PECOS river as well.

Hey  Patricia,

Now that it's started it's been three days with rain. The first day it all soaked in. New we have a litttl runoff.

Hi Al,

Thank you. And we will for as long as it lasts.

Hi Gita,

We do that all the time as well. You don't have to be a child to have fun in the Rain storm.

Mitch.

I talked to a friend of mine in North Carolina, Told him to send some Rain. The Lord must have been listening to us talk. LOL

Hi Steve,

I am origanlly from Michigan. I miss the greenery all the time.

Hello Georgina,

We still need a lot of rain to "catch up'. Thanks for the concerns.

Hi Marte,

Yes a wet spring is a whole lot better than a dry spring with no rain at all.

Hey Kathy,

Howdy old neighbor.

Portales is just a short distance from here. How do you like the Palm Springs area?

Hi Gene,

Yes we did. I really like a good lightning show as well.

Hi Sherry,

Rob Thomas from Bristol is talking about rain all the time. I even asked for some. LOL

I guess he got the hint.

Hi BOB.

Yes what a relief. I just hope it continues.
