Real Estate and the movies!

My wife and I were driving from Cleveland to New York City a few years ago, and to keep our daughters entertained in the back seat, we let them watch some videos... what cracked us up was how each movie had real estate as a prominent player in the plot.

"Gone with the Wind" of course, featured Tara, Scarlett O'Hara's home... "Land! Katy Scarlett, Land!"

And "The Grapes of Wrath" with so many Okies losing their land...

and amusingly, they watched "The Lone Ranger" with each episode featuring some criminal element attempting to take some rancher's land, or some farmer's meadow...

What other Hollywood movies can you recall with Real Estate as such a focus?

And I'm not forgetting "American Beauty"... but that is real esate agents as the focus... when it comes to real estate agents in movies, I love that gal in "Wall Street"... she's from central casting!

My kids got a huge kick out of the Lemony Snickett movie- was it called "A Series of Unfortunate Events"? In the movie there is a ricketty house that needs to be sold, however the owner can't sell because she is afraid of ....Realtors!  And of course a Realtor keeps ringing her doorbell and she refuses to answer... They still laugh about it!

The Fountainhead, comes to mind.

Does anyone alse recall a short lived TV show in the 80's, called "Open House" perhaps, about a brokerage? Ellen DeGeneras (sp) was in it....

"Finding Nemo" - a bad real estate decision ends in the demise of a family member.

"Uptown Girls" - Brittany Murphy's character loses her home after her attorney embezzles her money.

"Beetlejuice" - after the primary characters drive off a bridge and die their cousin, the Realtor, sells the home to yuppies from NYC.

"The Goonies" - the premise is the kids are seeking out a fortune to prevent their families' homes from being foreclosed upon.

"The Wizard of OZ" - "there's no place like home."

And my favorite:  drumroll please....

"Duplex" - a very nice couple buy a duplex and the upstairs tenant just doesn't seem to want to move.

This list doesn't say much about my choice of movies, does it?  ;)

LOL...Actually it says quite a bit. SVW.

Gosh, I guess it does say a LOT!  Just not the right things  ;)  What?  You think the Finding Nemo/Real Estate tie-in is a stretch?
