Never assume - go back and check

When writing to my real estate copywriting clients, I always nag about checking and double-checking the links on their websites and in their emails. But I have to admit, once in a while I get sidetracked and forget.

I'm sure glad I didn't forget today!

Seeing that my Active Rain real estate copywriter profile was in sad need of updating, I took the time this morning to do it. Then I checked to see what it looked like. How'd THAT happen?

I have no idea why or where it came from, but at the top of each section there were at least 100 lines of "gobbledy-gook." I went into the HTML editor and got rid of them, but if I hadn't checked, all a visitor would have seen was - yuck.

After that was repaired I checked all the links and they're fine.

But earlier this week, one of my links wasn't fine. When I posted the blog about the Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act, I included a link for agents to use in requesting a letter I'd written. For whatever reason, the first attempt at creating a link didn't work - it led to an error page.

So... Check and double check. Sometimes strange things can appear when you upload - and links you thought were fine can be broken.

As they say on the Appalachian Service Project, measure twice and cut once. Very important thing to do.

Well, Marte, you are smart enough to know what to DO if that gobbledy gook shows up--some of us, look just like your animated figure and continue to scratch our heads, and then call whatever AR God we know, or some wonderful website geek that can help.

Bud & Beth - And when it comes to measuring and cutting, even that doesn't help me. I can still cut the wrong length. I leave that for the cutting experts. And they measure twice and cut once.

Richard - You too!

Gayle - I was stumped until I noticed that little link that said "HTML."

Hannah - Sometimes I find it amazing how something can look fine when I hit "send" and look awful when it gets there.
