Restoring Balance

 Restoring Balance

Have you ever taken extended time off from your normal routine? Did you find it easy to return to it? How long did it take for daily balance to resume?  It has been a very long time since I've had a long period away from home.

The past couple of weeks have been just wonderful…the flight from Asheville to Tampa, spending time with my mother, brothers and sisters in law, the road trip from St Pete to Montgomery, Alabama, the Shakespeare plays, the King’s Feast, the road trip to Balsam, NC, more time with my Mom, the road trip back to St Pete, meeting Tammy Lankford, the bookstore in Valdosta, more visiting with brothers and family, the flight back to Asheville and then home to Balsam.

I loved every minute of it but missed home and my regular blogging schedule. How odd, I’ve only been at this for a little over a year but it’s astounding to me that it has become such a large part of my daily routine. Not only does AR provide me with a creative outlet but there’s also the regular interaction with people who’ve become very important to me. I’ve missed them and couldn’t wait to have a regular access to a computer and internet connection to catch up with everyone…and yet, I’m not fully back in the swing of everything. Slowly everything is coming back…today was better than yesterday and tomorrow will be better than today.

One of our very favorite clients (now a friend) stopped in today and visited Leslie and me for a while, that was good and went a long way towards making me feel like I was home again. Since I got back a couple of days ago, we’ve had a closing, received two referrals for two different listings, made arrangements for some showings for a new buyer, we wrote an offer, I caught up on correspondence and calls…so for sure, the days are becoming more productive.

Maybe by tomorrow daily routine (well, as routine as I get anyway) will return and the daily balance will be restored.

Mona... I think part of the problem is that different parts of you may just be working on different agendas.  Part of you wants to still be on the road, and parts of you want to get back into the swing of things.  It's not very easy to do, and it's (in my opinion) very hard to do it quickly.

I think your office manager needs to be watching you closely.  I hear that Sienna, when she wants to, can be quite the task-mistress.

Welcome back.

Also... I think by "suggesting" this... it would be great to hear what others do when they have been out of the real estate loop for awhile, and need to get back in.

Where does it say you have to always in a routine or going back to one. Perhaps being creatures of habit we have no choice.

Good morning Mona. I chuckled as I read this because I am in the same place. Going away is wonderful but there are always the strings that pull you home. In my case my pups, my wish to complete my home purchase are but two. I wish friends in and out of the Rain and the the day to day predictability. Always good to take a few more days than you plan to decompress and get with the program.

Ahhh Will, but you often take those 6 day breaks...you are probably used to getting in the swing of things!  Wonder what Belinda would say about it, lol.

Karen Anne, thanks.  I think you are right, I'm like the scarecrow...there's little bits of me all over.  I appreciate the suggest and would love to hear how others get back to so called normal life.

Winston, about the only habit I adhere to regularly is blogging.  I like to do that very early and very late.  Leslie and the Office Manager will attest to the fact that there is very little else routine in my life.

Bob, yes indeed.  I hope my mother wants to go see the Shakespeare plays again next year.  It will be even more fun already knowing how to get there and how to get around.

Roger, I'm always glad for your company.  I'll bet you'd have enjoyed coming in person and squiring two fine ladies around!

Sheila, a few more decompression days would have been nice.  I think Leslie could use them too, she worked really hard holding everything together here.

Your trip looked amazing!

We're just back from a week away and in the restoring balance mode as well. Looking at these mountains all lush and green makes it easier.

Routine?  you're making that up, we can't have a "routine" in this job. LOL  Now if you'd said back to your regularly controlled chaos, I could identify with that.

Moca,  I'm so glad you had a chance to take a break.  I'm afraid my breaks have to wait till after September when business has calmed down a bit.  Will is taking a much needed vacation June 1st to Ohio to spend a week with his daughter and 4 grandkids.  I have to take lots of vitamins to have energy to cover everything while he is gone.  Its all good.  At least we are all busy now!  Yippee.

Belinda, nothing is better than having a partner you can depend on!  Take those vitamins, drink lots of water and eat your veggies.  You are a young woman and you'll get through it just fine.

Mona,

I haven't taken much time off. I am glad you had a great two week vacation with family and I am sure you are glad to be home. There really is nothing like home, is there?

Patty, this was the first time in many years that I was able to do this.  If Leslie hadn't given so generously of her time it wouldn't have happened.  Thank you for your kind note.

Allen, thanks.  It's always good to see you too.

I'd say it takes several days after you get back to be back in schedule. But, if you're lucky, it takes even longer. The idea is to hold onto that refreshed feeling as long as you can. I just went through something similar without blogging for about 5 days and I missed it too, but it's alright, AR is still here and now, I am too.
