Yesterday Afternoon Soldiers placed more than 200,000 small U.S. Flags on grave markers at ARLINGTON National Cemetary to mark the start of Memorial Day weekend activities.

Since 1948, the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, also known as The Old Guard, has been carrying out this tradition called "Flags In".

The flags are placed with "military" like precision, one foot and centered in front of each grave marker.  The effect is spectacular and worth the short trip to Arlington Cemetery to see this weekend!

All the flags will be removed after Memorial Day.

That is quite a few flags to place, but it sure makes a statement.  I'm very thankful for all that military families have given and sacrificed for our freedom.

Profit from my two decades of experience

Debbie, I get goose bumps when I think about the tradition that surrounds this event, it certainly is a nice remembrance to all of those you gave themselves to defend what they believe in.
